    Canadian brokers are unable to accept U.S. clients because doing so is forbidden by the CFTC. A few Canadian brokers (e.g. Friedberg) do accept U.S. clients via a U.S. subsidiary but then you are in the U.S. regulatory framework and are not eligible for Canadian insurance.

    True, although of course MFG was liquidated in an unfavorable way for brokerage account holders under chapter 11 (over which there was an immense controversy). Chapter 7, under which PFG is being liquidated, gives priority to futures brokerage account customers over all other creditors.
