I'm sure somewhere there's someone making money on T-3 and they know this will disappear when we go T-1. Like many things, it's not for the lack of technology that we delay progress. The SP pit is a great example of that. A little competitive pressure is all they need to get moving.

I don't think he's going prop to trade. He's doing it for the same reason most other guys start prop shops, to make money from the commissions of the suckers who come trade in his shop. That will give you a nice egg to start trading with in a few years.

The CME SPX option takes about 10-11K margin per contract. The futures option is illiquid, but takes far less margin to put on, about $4400 for an equivalent position during non-market hours.
