    short strategies and short interest

About a third to a half are shorts depending on the market.

Here we go again - spoos may be locked limit tonight

I don't think we get these markets often enough to draw any real conclusions about crowd psychology, but I wish we did. We had an event that was worldwide in scope and attention with immediate feedback and progress reporting. For the last few weeks, when the tick passed the 4 digit mark or the...

    short strategies and short interest

I have shorted equities for some time, and always use options throughout the process. As you say, I was always looking for about 10 - 30% although the companies could have come out with terrible news any day, as anyone can. For me, the short interest ratio was confirmation that others were...

    CANCEL FEES: Letter to SEC

Sure, I see the $1 - $2 spreads all day long. I post .10 - .20 inside and wait to get filled. Sometimes I have to move it once or twice, but usually not. I almost never pay the spread, but it happens. Maybe you should post another poll. See how many folks routinely post 80 - 100...

    CANCEL FEES: Letter to SEC

If you actually rountinely practice what you have stated above, I fear you may be a big part of the CAUSE of the exchanges implementing this rule. If you are cancelling that many orders, the "visibility" you say you are fighting for may be a false prophecy, since few people are obviously able...

    hedge fund wannabees

William Ackman used to post under bill204 (I think). Now that I look back at some of my notes, you might be right. Ackman was most certainly bill204 and I think most of the pulled posts were from him. I think his firm was "Gotham Partners Management Co" and a guy named Berkowitz? was his...

ANTI-WAR/USA BASHERS: WHERE ARE YOU NOW, MFERS?!?!

Absolutely....and with a British accent to boot. Picture the hair coming out from underneath that helmet and flying side to side. Maybe we could get Emma from CNBC a uniform and an AR-15.

Yeah. That's called "outstanding relative performance". Relatively, you didn't lose as much of your ass as everyone else.

    hedge fund wannabees

I think I'm right. Gotham Capital Partners is the one in trouble and they are associated with VIC. I am a VIC member and a few guys who were Gotham insiders had posted the controversial short thesis statements on the site. A few days after the Times article broke, the statements were removed...

    hedge fund wannabees

Some have classes that delve into the subjects, but I was referring to the basic business skills that one needs to start any business. Trading profitably and starting a business are completely different endeavors. I don't know of any B school that teaches anyone to trade profitably per se.

    hedge fund wannabees

That was a pretty good article. The bar is high and the skilled who have fallen are many. Most of these guys made classic mistakes. Gotham had no business hiding behind VIC for the past few years and it caught up with them. Quitting a 1M a year job outright to start a fund isn't a great...

    Short and nervous tuesday AM...

We get a pop if they find his body...or they surrender. Short of those, I think the war has shot it's load on this market. We could have problems if the main fighters are gone and we start getting hit by small groups of suicide bombers every other day. Seems like much more downside risk from...

One if by land, two if by sea, three if by air

To me, it's a tough call...but I'll answer your question from my point of view. It's about the oil. Sure, Saddam tortured and killed many. To a lesser degree, torture is commonplace in that part of the world and many countries still practice it. Treating your people poorly and oppressing...

One if by land, two if by sea, three if by air

...and how exactly would they "ask us to start a war"? Email? Maybe a public referendum? I don't think I need to tell you the outcome of someone caught communicating in the most basic way with the United States. In a truly secret ballot, I guess you believe Hussein would still get 99.8% of...

POLL: WHAT SHOULD WE DO WITH THE IRAQI INFORMATION MINISTER?

We should offer him a job here. Can you imagine how many publicly traded companies (whose lies are still secret) could use a guy like this? He's perfect for the job...and who could have a better resume?

One if by land, two if by sea, three if by air

Hii is just another example of someone enjoying their life here in the candy store, blind to the path which we have taken to have such a wonderful country. We have certainly made mistakes over the years and it's too early to tell how history will judge our current actions. This is not the...

Here we go again - spoos may be locked limit tonight

I think it does matter whether they get him or not. If he escapes and still has plenty of funding, he is still a threat...his sons too. To fail to get bin laden or Hussein would be too much for Bush. These guys are like street dealers, you can kick them off their corner, but they will pop up...

    CANCEL FEES: Letter to SEC

It's all about how the exchanges (and the gov't for that matter) want you, the paying consumer, to behave. With more fees, there is disincentive to do something. With tax credits or deductions, there is incentive to participate in those things eg., home ownership etc... Change the incentives...

    CANCEL FEES: Letter to SEC

Those are some very serious allegations and assertions you are making. I don't see things as you do. The terms MUST, ALWAYS, GUARANTEED and others as you use them in this context are not reality. The business world is much more grey than that. I assure you that the exchanges have...

Good of you to waste their time and ours. If this was your letter, I wouldn't have responded.
