i think you will get it when climbing matterhorn or similar. of course if you are going to travel only by car/van/truck/boat you can easily go for something bigger. but i thought you mentioned backpacking...

Looking to trade off a Laptop while traveling

this is the only post that OP should consider. all the rest is rubbish - likely from people that never seriously traded while travelling (off the beaten track). the most important things are: 1. hardware flexibility (IBM/Lenovo cuts it) 2. Windows OS (at least on 1 partition) 3. max 15'...

Matthew Simmons: Oil will be $600

simmons is running ponzi scheme with his predictions. his tactic is: when you get wrong with your prediction just double it up. i've been watching this guy for many years now and he is just a freak - his underlying thesis is alright (Peak Oil) but what he deduce from that is just too funny.

    Interesting: Krugman gets into fisticuffs...

Krugman is an idiot - i am surprised that it needs to be even discussed on the site called "Elite Trader". It is not surprising Krugman likes Fed while not ECB. He is after all a communist weasel like Michael Moore - and Fed is behaving in a similar manner (as opposed to ECB). Even...

    Fed is buying treasuries

it is unbelievable how many people believe this mantra. it seems we actually need some hard lessons in economy 101 once again... quantitative easing IS printing money and in a technical way is the only way to do so. zimbabwe was doing the same thing with the only difference that they stopped...

    Fed buying treasuries.... question

they have still few bullets left - like buying equities, buying every american a breakfast, buying houses etc....

    Fed is buying treasuries

thin air - it is just an accounting entry on the liabilities side....the corresponding entry is a treasury security on the asset side. with respect to stimulus during the autumn; they did not have to sell treasuries but they wanted to do so. this way they avoided inflationary effects...

The real people at fault for this mess: The Ratings Agencies

of course - banks are there to protect you from the rating agencies...is this what you say? who asked for deals to be rated? Banks? No! The client/regulator did! In most instances he knew he was buying crap - but as long as it was AAA and gave him an excess spread so that he could go and buy...

    Fed is buying treasuries

oh boy - so I should believe you rather than the publicly available fed balance sheet? the one think is talk the talk the other is walk the walk - today we got the later.

The real people at fault for this mess: The Ratings Agencies

that's a completely wrong understanding of the rating process for structured credit. by the way banks quite often kept the crap... agree with OP that rating agencies are the main culprit in hiding the real quality of the paper sold - they betrayed the sole reason of their existence. they...

    Fed buying treasuries.... question

not gonna happen. PRC is not trading treasuries - that would be another huge game changer. the reductions would happen by not rolling they reserves forward at auctions...

    Fed is buying treasuries

where do you see that fed was buying treasuries? last time i checked (1 month ago) they were buying exactly "nada". do you even know where to look it up?

    Fed buying treasuries.... question

that said, i would not be surprised if we see the dollar going stronger again very soon. the recent pattern is that any bold move (which is initially viewed as only money printing) is ultimatelly viewed as the one that is going to help the economy - and the US economy first... with gold...

    Fed buying treasuries.... question

ok - this one wins today's ignorance contest. :D PRC will not like today's action for many reasons. let's name some of them: 1. lower yields at auctions they are supposed to bid on. note they continuous bidding is one of the few leverages PRC has over US. 2. lower USD which indirectly...

Anybody else short US 30 Bond

HOLY SHIT! really... i am glad i stopped trading this. another reason for becoming a commodity bull squared... if this is not inflationary then nothing is - they basically said that out of ~2trn losses government is on hook they will initially print about 50%...
