Book about the Quantum Fund and/or the British Pound Bet?

a couple of chapters exist in books... "Inside the house of money" has Scott Bessemer's view... he used to be a head trader at Quantum... its discusses how Soros and Druckenmiller discussed the trade. Sebastian Mallaby's "More money than god" has a fair bit of info on the trade as well....

    Plan for dealing with Emotions

Trading is superficially easy because most trades look incredibly easy to see after they have occurred. It's also easy after the fact to make it look easy because its an act you are playing, not a real-time forward moving action. Don't be fooled into thinking this isn't a lot of work, it is...

Setting up a mutual fund rather than private offering...?

I knew a money manager who thought about setting up a mutual fund after being Nelsons top 10 10 year managers.... $2 million just to set it up, which he didn't end up doing because he was only making $500k a year in the business, this was in 2005, I imagine compliance is even worse now.

Are fixed income futures harder to trade than other types of futures?

I would stick to retail type products first like TLT and such for the time being.... Also read Christina Ray's book. There is a lot of cheap information that you will need to learn, might as well pay $50 for it instead of a multiple of that in the Market...

    Philosophy

Learning philosophy will slow you down if you are weighing it against simply learning the risks and mechanics of real day to day and longer term trading. You should only view it as a kind of entertainment or exercise at best. I went through a long period from about 18 to 25 that would have been...

liquidity is contracting again, not to say there was a lot of liquidity the last 2 years in comparison to the last ten. Tim Barakett, Paolo Pellegrini, Stanley Druckenmiller.... all unwinding their funds recently. Mind you, these guys aren't quants, but you can see liquidity is coming off the...

It is now time to sell sell sell your TLT - Bonds are going to crash

deadbroke - I suggest you read MKC Global's piece - "shorting treasuries a historic sucker bet". I read it when it first came out, quite timely imo. Look at the date on the article. Have you ever considered that this treasury rally is a safe way (right now the safest way, it aint...

    Using options in TF

Read up on long volatility strategies. IMO, long volatility is what generates the returns behind trend following. If you have a strategy meant to profit from volatility, its a kind of trend following system. Long volatility has also done very well in the unusual Markets we've hard since 2007...

    Goldman Sacks "education" scam

king- unemployment rates would probably go up about 4-5% just from the unwind of kids going to the workforce and the staff having to look for new jobs... But ya, its a great idea. I don't believe I'll see it for another 5-10 yrs though.

    Goldman Sacks "education" scam

I have to smirk. Having dropped out of college is making more and more sense. Unfortunately, shorting stocks like CECO when this crap all started in mid 2000s never made me money.

Private sector adds 42,000 jobs in July

Just remember that 200,000 students graduate college and join the workforce each month on average, for about 2.6 million per year in the US.... It takes that many hires to keep the employ rate even... we clearly are not there.
