    gold & silver sector

Umm. I've been in gold shares since $268/oz. Even then, it seemed like the mother of all short squeezes was on its way within 5-10 years. Although fairly speculative at the time, the idea that there is a 15k MT official sector short position (one way or another) is gaining some favor and...

    Tony Crabel

Yep. It would be hard to prove material damage due to a single post on an internet message board. But to 'seal the deal' in terms of limiting your liability, the offending poster might want to issue an apology on this thread.

    A call for Monitor Recommendations

But those will only do 1024X768 at a decent refresh rate.. Think about power consumption too. I really really like the samsung flat panels.

Single most important book for a trader

    1. Lose money first. I mean it-- I didn't figure out anything until I had actually traded some, and gone back to the books.. Philosophy, etc: Fooled by Randomness, Nassim Taleb Education of a Speculator, Niederhoffer (and after you finish it, go read about his blowups) General...

    PhD without the guts

Dude, what's your beef? I was ph.d-track econ as an undergrad, and I burnt out when I couldn't hack the math any longer (difEq is about as far as I can go). I got my undergrad degree, and still might go for a ph.d. (either finance or econ) at a mid-tier school later in life. I have yet to...

Qcharts, will it survive comstock takeover?

I thought spcomstock only provided the options data feeds to lycos (ie qcharts)

Fastest way to lose an $1,000,000 account

    1. Find a stock trading between 1 and 2 cents. 2. Write a bajillion OTC call options with a strike of $.04 to your broker for a clownishly low premium. 3. Sit back and watch the magic.

    Trading with $500,000.00

jay, thanks for posting your question. I hope I have the same issue some day.. (if gold keeps going up, it might be sooner than later). You really have a whole different world of problems to deal with. Over 1mil +, I'd start to worry about: 1. Dollar risk (I'd want to be earning...

    gold & silver sector

FWIW, I'm in: DROOY, jpn.v (jpnjf.pk), nri.to (nvglf.pk), tnx.to (trxaf.pk), cde.. All of them have had good jumps, but I've been in Drooy the longest. I've been buying Au stocks from when gold was @ $270 spot. woohoo!

    Linux?

No, but there are halfway-decent tools for heavy analysis (esp. options modeling). Go to freshmeat and look at the finance category. Redi+ may be available on Intel Solaris, which should port to linux without any difficulty.

    Sharing Thoughts on Forex

I would spend the money for esignal.. But I have found that the charting package from forexnews.com is pretty reasonable for my purposes. If you're really interested in trading fx, I don't see how spending 50/month on your education is a bad expense.

    Anyone Using IB Mobile TRader?

I haven't tried this yet, but I was thinking about using a windows ce device (ipaq), with verizon's g3 service ($100/mo, unlimited data, 52k-ish speeds), and just run the standard tws (with few equities on the screen) If you're running a mechanical system, and you leave your software running...

    I Luv Tws!!

Bungrider-- If you asked around on the IB message boards, I'm sure someone would take a contract to write this for you. Despite some of the really stupid questions, there are talented developers writing apps for tws.. The mechanics of that kind of order are not hard with the tws api, but...

    Anyone into ergonomic mice/keyboards?

I have a DataHand keyboard for when my wrists get really bad.. Expensive, but awesome. The mouse is integrated. Most days, if I've been keeping my posture good, I can just use a regular 110key + thumb trackball. regards, laz

The api is wicked too.. I rolled my first c# app (ever)-- a simple quote streamer, in about an hour with their api.
