Odd Lots Mixed Lots Whole Lots

It is my understanding that share size is rounded for reporting purposes. Twenty shares would be rounded to zero which would not be reported. I believe this is system-wide, not a broker policy. Also some venues (e.g. NYSE) execute mixed lots but not odd lots. The price you see on the NBBO...

    Sensory Defensiveness/Hypersensitivity

Sensory defensiveness was not in DSM-IV, and so far as I know has not [yet] been included in DSM-V. There seems to be some support building to include it. Psychological traits are often hard to identify, because they can vary in intensity, and can also be clustered with other traits (e.g...

WHAT is the main reason to use interactive brokers?

I posted on another ET thread about a recent cock-up in autotrading through IB. I got lucky and didn't lose any money, but I am still fuming about it. They introduced a new "feature" a while back that pops up a message dialog and blocks autotrading. They buried a very brief mention of it in...

WHAT is the main reason to use interactive brokers?

Safety is an important issue for me too. It's my understanding that the added insurance applies to U.S. accounts as well, though it's not clear how well it would work in the event of a worldwide meltdown. And I don't think we are out of danger yet. The universal account was a huge plus at...

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

I will admit that, in my case, I did not RTFM before doing the upgrade. But for my upgrade, there were ten sets of release notes to be waded through. Making a change that is certain to break customers' apps, then burying a passing comment in the release notes is not good software...

    Trading the Firm's Capital?

@TsTrades: You seem to making good progress cutting through the marketing bs and getting to the essence. I have been weighing prop trading vs. forming a hedge fund or advisory business, and for a small operator such a myself, I am not seeing a lot to recommend either. I have also found...

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

My apps are not designed to run unattended. I never turn my back on the beast while it has permission to enter orders. I have found that I don't like making decisions under pressure. My apps are designed to look for certain conditions, then spring into action. The computer trades much...

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

As I said earlier, Bob's suggested cause was indeed the basis of my problem. The problem was not a bug, but rather an "enhancement" introduced in Build 894, which has been sitting there for some time like a landmine waiting to be stepped on. The current forced upgrade neither caused the...

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

I have been trading with IB for seven years now, and trading has been my sole source of income for just over four. I also have thousands of hours of development invested in my apps, so changing brokers is not something I do casually. On the other hand, I've never been burned like this before.

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

That turned out to be the message. It's a little embarassing, but it took me two hours to massage my app so it would place automated trades outside market hours so I could re-create the error. I put several checks in place to make sure that didn't happen by mistake. It looks like the...

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

I hope you're writing tongue-in-cheek here. I think I would have a stroke, if I had that much trouble. But then, maybe that's what is wrong with me today. . . [rwk]

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

I upgraded my trading computer to Build 989.4, the latest standalone version for Windows. I do most of my trading with my own apps via the API. The installation ran normally, and the TWS looked and acted properly. When my bots placed orders just before the close, the TWS popped up a message...

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

It's my understanding that the mandatory upgrades are done for technical reasons that are internal to the software. I don't fault IB for the forced upgrades, but I want to be sure there is a stable version I can use. They frequently have severe quality problems, and they keep making cosmetic...

    Tax calculation for Interactive Brokers

IB has provided a Schedule D-1 worksheet for [I think] 3 years now. The first year, there were mistakes, and I couldn't use it. The last two years, it was fine. The Schedule D-1, plus the Form 1099, should be all your tax preparer needs.

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

I'm on 887.2 (8/26/2008), and a bit apprehensive about the upgrade. BTW, I have been an IB customer for about 7 years now. Every few months someone tries to drum up support for a light version. I think hell will freeze over before it happens.

end of dayers how many stocks?

My tests with number of stocks only recorded total return. In my experience, my worst hits were loss per stock in the order of 1-2% of the entire account (e.g. $1-2k on a $100k account). Usually all the stocks move together, up or down.

    Trading the Firm's Capital?

I'm not a prop trader, so I am summarizing what I have read here and elsewhere. There are firms where they supply all the capital, but getting hired is extremely difficult for obvious reasons. That is especially true for the big-name investment banks such as GS and MS. With firms where...
