    TWS' missing javaw.exe link

My installation runs javaw.exe from System32, but I notice that javaw.exe exists in SysWOW64 as well. Is there some reason you're trying to run it from the latter. SysWOW64 contains 32-bit software. Some people think that's confusing, though I can't imagine why.

Tech firms warn of impacts of tight visa quota

“What’s going to happen in this country is more and more companies, and new creations, and new ideas, are going to be created in a foreign country. And with it go the jobs.” (Colleen McKeown, a senior vice president at ON Semiconductor) It's about saving jobs. They have to sacrifice...

H1B Visa program has already ruined this country

You have to understand that most workers who come here on a temporary visa actually intend to stay permanently. The numbers add up over time, plus the cap was at 195,000 per year for a time. Companies have also gotten around the cap by ignoring it. In at least one year, the cap was exceeded...

    Moo order fill

It's my understanding that you will get the best price offered at 9:30am even if it is $0.01. If there are no offers at all, your order will go unfilled until someone shows up to trade with you.

Tax eFile with long Sched D attachment???

It's my understanding that you're always required to send a signature page via snailmail when you eFile. I don't use eFiling because I consider my tax return private.

Tax eFile with long Sched D attachment???

You can summarize the transactions on Schedule D and send the detail as an attachment to the signature page.

source for stock info (mktcap, sector, etc)

I just download the HTML to my program and parse it to extract the data I need. In Windows, the WinInet API is really easy to use for that.

IB and tax info - need without wash sales!!

I didn't use IB's report last year, because I didn't like the way they reported wash sales. They list all wash sales, not just the ones that have to be deferred past yearend. Then I realized that it is quite unlikely that anybody will actually go through the report to understand the tax...

    no tax states

If you're just visiting, I don't know how the state tax collector would know you are there. If you rent an office, etc, that's different.

    no tax states

Most states that have an income tax collect that tax on income earned in their state regardless of residency. That could be as brief as one day (in the case of pro athletes and other high-income earners).

IB gain/loss statement including wash-sale calcs

I haven't gotten my tax statements yet, so I don't know how bad the situation is. The first year IB provided the gain/loss worksheet, it was wrong and unusable. Last year I calculated my own Schedule D-1, though I don't know IB report was wrong. This year I am leaning toward using IB's report...

IB Clients, do you use your security device to log-in?

I also have two accounts, margin and IRA, and I have two of the platinum (credit card size) devices. The small keys are hard to press just right, and sometimes I have trouble reading the display, especially first thing in the morning. But I like the security it gives me, and wouldn't do...

    How to use DOM primer?

I bought the book. There wasn't much of interest in the first or last third, and much of it was obsolete. The middle is where the beef is, and I haven't gotten through that yet. At $40, it can't be a very bad trade.

Can anyone recommend a source of historical data WITHOUT survivor bias?

The OP didn't say what he wants the data for, but I would think a coach/trainer for Bright would be working mostly with high momentum stock strategies. I don't think survivorship or lookahead biases are all that important for high momentum, but they're absolutely critical for anything like...

Can anyone recommend a source of historical data WITHOUT survivor bias?

Correction: It's Compustat that has the PIT database. I have not used it because it's so expensive. You might also look at portfolio123.com. They say their data does not have survivorship bias, though it looks like you can only access it via the Internet.

Can anyone recommend a source of historical data WITHOUT survivor bias?

The CRSP point-in-time (PIT) database is the gold standard for backtesting, but it's very expensive and not generally available. While their database not specifically design to exclude survivorship bias, csidata.com told me they never delete stocks. I'm not sure how they handle symbol...
