    Beating the Spread

I think it depends on the option and the MM. Today, for instance, I sold at the ask for some ADBE options, and got immediately filled in the middle of a $.20 spread for some OSIP options. SPY options almost never get filled except at the NBBO, but if I get filled at the Boston exchange I see a...

Mine does, too, but I assume it's just using UTC for the times.

briefing active trader - anyone using it?

Last week they were touting on In Play that two of the picks they made the previous day on the premium service were now up 40 to 50 percent. How many picks per day do they make?

    Cramer Brings Down Merck

Take a look at the CNBC video of the interview with the jurors. It's on wsj.com and maybe elsewhere. Several were asked about the caution label. One juror: "We realized it was strategically put in certain areas, and if you didn't look in those areas you wasn't gonna find the caution...

How many of us ET traders are up or down this year?

I'm up 17% this year, trading part time, but still have only half of what I put in since 2000. Through late 2004, I didn't do any better than if I had just invested in QQQ and done nothing else. It was like every time the Nasdaq was at 2000, I was at $80K, so why was I spending my time doing...

WIDE bid-ask spreads on ITM options

Does an alarm sound at the MM's station when an inactive option series starts getting activity, to wake someone up? I was the first to buy OVRL Nov 10 puts on Friday, and as soon as I got filled, the price on the Nov's jumped, and soon after that the price on the Sep's jumped even more, and...

    Option Codes

I can only find quotes for WMRxx Jan 06 options in archived pages from 2004. Maybe they renamed the '06 WMRxx options to MRKxx when the '08 options became available?

    Cramer Brings Down Merck

That's a good point. My father's diabetes medications harm his kidneys, and cancer drugs can harm various other organs, but on balance they prolong life, and generally the adverse effects are well-known and can be monitored because the patients are seeing a doctor every couple weeks anyway...

    Dell Prices

The OS needs to know about hyperthreading, but most OS's written over the past few years support it. Software that uses more than one thread will automatically benefit from hyperthreading, although hyperthreading doesn't duplicate all of a CPU's resources (and of course the threads will share...

Cramer bashers: got the balls to fade his pick of the wk DKS before tues earnings?

What was odd was that he said to make sure not to use a market order and to use a limit order instead. I was under the impression that you couldn't even do market orders after-hours or pre-market. Anyway, DKS is down 7% PM after guiding lower.

    Day Trading Options

Another issue to be concerned about in an IRA is auto-exercise. Look at http://elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51251 for one war story. If you're going to be daytrading long options purely on directional plays, you have to be selective. As other posters pointed out, the spread...

    Is E-Trade the Worst Broker

They can suspend an account if they think there's some kind of fraud going on. It seems odd that they'd let you login to the suspended account and that the only way you knew it was suspended was when you tried to close a position - the logical thing to do would be to put up a notice when you...

BIDU - ipo day trading stories

Maybe. I'm OK with people boasting about trades they did, recommending tip sites, or even pumping their own tip sites, but if things look fishy - a trade that looks impossible, or a recommendation of a tip site (espicially by a first-time poster) that omits the fact that the poster has an...

Anyone using an LCD TV as monitor? any downside?

LCD TVs seem to have a height of only 768 pixels... kind of short, I think. The actual physical size is pretty decent for the price, though. One alternative, if you want to watch TV on the same screen as you trade on, is to get a TV tuner card for your PC.

BIDU - ipo day trading stories

Let's see, if you got in at $85.02, that had to be between 12:22 and 12:23. The earliest someone could have gotten in and out with a profit of 15 points was being in at the low of 65 and out at 80 at 12:17. Furthermore, the post on positionplays.com about the trader who got the 15 point...

BIDU - when will there be options on it?

According to http://www.sec.gov/interps/legal/mrslb15.htm, it seems a company has to have least 7 million shares that are not held by insiders in order to list options. That's at least one reason why TZOO doesn't have options, for instance, even though there's certainly demand for them.

Notebooks or Desktops which ones better for trading

I trade options and tend to track a set of stocks in my targets' sector as well as the major indexes, so I need lots of real estate for charts. I find 1280x1024 too small, and prefer 1600x1200, so I use a desktop. I visit my folks one weekend a month, so I miss the first few hours of...

    MY FIRST 1G Day

There's of course conflicting advice about this: some people say "let your winners run" and others say "have strict price targets". I am a bit disappointed that I sold all my ATVI when it hit 19.7 the day of its earnings report, but it had hit my target, and past experience is that it pulls...
