Is DayTrading Stocks Even Worth it Anymore?

That's before taxes and after costs that are debited directly from my trading account (mostly just FirstAlert at $450/mo). Add about another 2000 in subscriptions, charts, internet connection, etc. I never use all my buying power. On the open I might have 10 positions of 1200-2000 shares...

Is DayTrading Stocks Even Worth it Anymore?

Yes, from my experience, it's very possible. I started one year ago, lost $13k over 6 months during the learning curve. Got back to zero and made $53k over the final 6 months, while still building up my share size. I am flat every night, trade nyse only, net profitable 7 or 8 days out of...

    Trader Nirvana???

Move to Canada, you get an extra 50% on your profits because of the exchange rate. Many things are the same price here in Canadian dollars as they are in the US in American dollars. I'm looking at a new 1800 sq foot house in a nice neigborhood for under $200k cdn, that's $130k usd. A new...

    Don's Openings, Part 5

Bad stocks and news will account for your biggest losses with openings. You got the double whammy today. KSS is tough, plus there was big retail news today.

    10:00 AM trend change stats???

I don't keep stats on that, but I'm guessing it has something to do with economic reports that are usually released at 10:00. The market has been surprised a lot this year.

    Happy Boxing Day!

Merci Beucoup. Yes, it's officially a statutory holiday here and I believe the busiest shopping day of the year. The deals are crazy!

    How much do traders earn?

Volatility- You can make money trading in a low volatility environment, but you have to risk more to make less. No matter what strategy you are employing, you can't profit unless prices move (excluding options writing). All I'm saying is that we're coming off many years of a good trading...

    How much do traders earn?

Pre-2002, I'd say those numbers would be somewhat believable, much less so this year. And with the way the markets are headed, those average incomes are probably going to come down a lot as volatility and volume dries up. But getting paid a guaranteed salary while learning the markets is a...

    Christmas vs. New Years

Bible chronology actually puts Jesus' birth some time in October. The date of Dec 25 came from the pagan Roman celebration of saturnalia, which was a festival marking the rebirth of the sun. I'm not sure, but I think the date of the 25th instead of the 21st is because the Romans used the...

    desk fees...black box...

Places like bright and echo charge everyone a desk fee, but almost everyone gets it rebated back. The volume minimums for a full rebate are pretty low. It's mostly to recoup the professional exchange fees the company pays for guys who trade 200 shares a day.

    SP 500 Additions

The way to play it now is to trade the gyrations in the 30 minutes before the close. I wouldn't even participate in the moc print.

    Gary B Smith of Realmoney.com

If you've read him for a long time, you know that in his earlier writing he praised O'neil and stated that he learned how to trade from his book. He's modified things from O'neil's book, but that's what his style is based on.

    Series 7 test - timing

When I wrote it there was mandatory 1 hour break between sessions. I went for lunch and looked at my textbook. You can't go back over questions from the first half once you are finished it.

    Gary B Smith of Realmoney.com

His style is very simple. He only uses trendlines, price and volume, no other indicators. He's also one of the only guys who pushes the importance of money management and a solid understanding of expectency. He publishes his results at the end of every year. 2001 was his worst year ever, up...

    Greedy Brokers ?

I didn't think there were many places left still charging per ticket plus per share. Even with nothing down, you should be able to get close to a penny per share with no ticket charges, especially with a track record. Who are you trading through and how long have you been there? What's your...

    Giving up

The three goals of trading, in order of importance: 1. capital preservation 2. consistent returns 3. large returns If trading to you is entertainment or you do it for some kind of rush or something, then just finding ways to stay in the game is probably more akin to feeding a gambling...

THC- crying in our beer??How about December crying in our beer!

I should have qualified my statement by saying that a good chunk of my gains have come from opening orders, which is the only place I'm doing any real size. There have been some decent moves in the first 15 minutes this week. I think the reason for the persistent downward momentum is that...

THC- crying in our beer??How about December crying in our beer!

I've found some pretty good trends this week. In fact with one day left, this week ranks as the fourth best of the year for me. Learning to fade momentum has helped a lot.
