how much can you rely on "probability in the money" calculations?

Those probabilities are calculated from the Black-Scholes models that calculate greeks also, I think. That mean's they're an "approximation" for starters and secondly they assume brownian motion so a random possibility of the underlying moving higher or lower. For example the probability might...

    Bond ETFs for income

If you buy a bond and hold it to maturity, assuming the issuer doesn't default, then rising rates won't matter to you. The bond will lose value when it is marked to market but if you're just going to hold it to maturity regardless you get repaid face value.

    Bond ETFs for income

I don't disagree with you. Just wanted to point a guy in a good direction rather than a never maturing bond fund. Meh, I'm not getting paid a commission either way :p

    Bond ETFs for income

Insurance companies and the policies they write are insured by the state government where the insurance company is incorporated. That's why they are legally allowed to say "guaranteed income", if the insurer goes bankrupt the policy holder is protected. This is the whole reason insurance...

Just wondering when does a trader become a gambler?

I think of gambling in terms of expectancy. Use a roulette wheel for instance, betting on one number yields a very high potential payout (not sure but I know it's north of 30x the bet) although it still has negative expectancy for the bettor, so they are hoping to get lucky and hit their number...

Why does Volume matter? Isn't non-involvement from institutional buyers itself a signal?

This is what I have seen and read, the price moving to size idea makes sense. Although Sprout if I'm understanding you correctly I think it may be referring to the inverse of the same idea. On one hand you have the "price moves to size" idea and on the other you have the "absence of activity =...

Why does Volume matter? Isn't non-involvement from institutional buyers itself a signal?

I'm not trading live yet, in the researching phase so take this for what it's worth which is probably less than zero. I look at volume from the perspective of market makers, who want high volume because for them volume = orders = $$$. If there is high volume at a given price level it is...

Why not more depth of market price ladder discussions?

There's a thread here on ET titled "Market Depth Patterns" or something like that, plug "market depth patterns" into the search you'll find it. There's some very interesting stuff in there about scalping and DOM.

What is your short term 30 year Treasury rate expectation?

That's basically my thoughts too, though I too am often wrong :D. Also I'm not a bond or rates trader so my opinion is probably worth less than zero. With the yield curve where it is, all else being the same I'd think the 5-7 year range just looking at the small yield difference for going...

I agree with Maverick, also a lot of these things are libor linked such as "libor + 5% or whatever but that doesn't mean they're floating.
