Did paper trade really help you to become profitable?

"You play paper trades, you win paper money" but it is good in terms of developing the other aspects, that are indirectly related to actual trading.

What are your favorite american stock for day trading

why don't you use a stock screener with filters in regards to market cap, price, volume , earnings, pte, highs low etc. When i was trading stocks back in 2008 i used a screener and couple of readily available filters. It was easy to find some good stocks less than $5 with good volume intraday.

Made a lot of progress, but feel like there's so much more to go...

yes you are absolutely right, for me getting in a trade at the precise price is a must since my stops are very tight. Sometimes i do have to drawdown as i am not able to time it right. but most of the time it works good. Since your play sounds like longer duration trades or atleast not a point...

Made a lot of progress, but feel like there's so much more to go...

yes that is true even being away from trading for a day or two you tend to forget lot of things, it does need constant observation atleast for me to be intune with market and have that confidence level when getting into trades. You just need to observe it or sim trade for atleast a few weeks...

But the edge loss you mention i don't seem to recall having it with transact futures. But the current broker i am using i can understand your point of view, But you also have to increase the rr to 1.25 to take into account edge loss and also commissions. thats why i always have a stop loss of...

    amateurs have no chance

i rarely trade more than 3 contracts as it has everything to do with the points you listed, since i am intraday with each trade lasting less than an average of 2 minutes. Even though with $500 margin for 1 contract i can trade upto 30 contracts with bit of leeway for drawdowns yet those trades...

    My Trading Holy Grail

i think i will stick with ES, it is something i understand better and news does not affect my trading strategy so atleast that is something of an advantage to me. I just thought i could apply my trading strategy to other markets but it seems like ES will keep me busy for time being.

    amateurs have no chance

at what point does it get difficult to manage trades consistently in terms of number of contracts, in regards to intraday. I rarely trade more than 3 contracts in a lot, beyond that it gets nerve wrecking.

i really do not understand your analogy, i blame on my poor comprehension about options and less than average mathematical aptitude. but if i look at the quote of 67/100 compared to 50/100, since i am more of a probabilities guy i would take the 67/100 and play on that probability all day long...

it is possible that it is not sustainable in long run for i am newbie when it comes to this trading methodology but since PeterH seems to have a good run using this, i am sure it is vetted and all. Also a point in ES means $50 and end of the day this strategy which seems a lot like mine produces...

its good to hear that it is good strategy and yes probabilities of trades going in favor far outnumber the ones that go against. i am really interested in your journal and look forward to your calls and also learn things to better improve my trades, don't listen to naysayers.

with scalping which i would call my trading, and it seems a lot like PeterH, its a for a few ticks/points. When i get into a trade i do not cross my fingers and jump into a trade hoping to get a 4 tick profit before the price hits my stop loss of 4 ticks. I get into a trade when the probability...

yes my time frame is also about a 1000 ticks, besides that how long do your trades last. Whats is the risk-reward ratio and stop loss ( if any). Also how do you set target prices, do you scale down once you reach your target or exit all. It will be nice to know such information as i see a lot of...
