    Manual trading and profitable?

Because of the plethora of posers on the forum, it would be better to start with asking about what tools to use. Which not to use and why, how to use them, when to use them and not to use them. That would be a solid start. You will not get much traction trying to "find an edge"*. What you...

    MultiCharts Automated trading

Hi Mark, Just FYI: I think the IOG bugs are a bit deeper. I encountered a bug with the SetStopLoss_pt(N) when IOG is off*. Essentially it double evaluates. Once when the condition is hit and another time at bar close. So this ended up actually reversing the position. Fortunately, it was...

    Crazy paper trading day

At the risk of being overly generous, it is paper. It is not like he is trading crazy (his description) for months. Everyone tests the limits to see what is possible and see what they SHOULD not do. He can "afford" to have a 6-digit loss. It would hurt, but he can return to try again. A lot...

    Great Job Ironbeam !

Seriously! Mark has and does help me. He helps me with navigating the tools of a trader. IMO, this is the best part of the forum. Less Rollerball, Deathrace 2000, Gladiator, for me please. :D It used to be more traders helping traders, and very little bragging, prognosticating, posing and...

What would you say belongs in a solid trading plan?

To that note. I would add you should list all the things you are NOT going to do. It should be pretty detailed and specific based on what you will do. Often people have a plan and "add on" or make an exception and this the "untested weapon in battle" mistake.

Help with traling stop order on IB

He wants a Trail Stop with Trigger? Trigger = point at which the trails order becomes active. Also note John, that sometimes the trail, once triggered becomes a "Pegged" order. You can read about pegged order at IB, or on ET. But that is down the rabbit hole, and as MW points out, that is...

Inexperienced router consumer in the market for a new home router, suggestions?

Yeah I talked to Comcast last week in SF CA area.. They said sure bring your own modem, but the monthly fee goes up +$30. I notified the FTC. On the router, the key feature is MIMO, or multiple input multiple outputs. Older modems can only talk to one device at a time. Count up how many...

Should you or should you not chase?

In that case narrow case, I go MKT and leave the LMT. Once the MKT is filled, cancel the LMT. If it executes, no big deal. Just close one for an early profit. By the time you adjust the LMT and resubmit, you can be in and in the green.

Should you or should you not chase?

FWIW some of points: Chasing mentality is a cousin of trying to exit with maximum profits. Personal preference is to go LMT to MKT because I can stay in syncc with the movement rhythm, and that is WAY more important to me. Rare for me. Consider if the order is short of the fill, it is the wrong...

    2k to 20k

Now calculate 1 out of 5 days you have a 3.5 point loss and 1 day out of 5 you are break even. Seems like a realistic bar to set for starting out. Hopefully you are somewhere in between this and the 100% consistency scenario. What happens is that exponential growth curve is delayed because...

    Could it be this easy?

I agree with this. This is like using one type of clothing for year around weather for 10 year or 10 locations. Or one club for all course, in all weather, all locations on the green. And what people do is "over fit" based on too much generality, so you get something that either:* a) does...

    Could it be this easy?

And what is the issue with checking 100 trades? Too much work for many people. It does not take that long, and as you do it: 1) create a catalog on the type of shenanigans and keep count. For instance: Suspect fills, data anomaly, after the fact fills etc. 2) keep track on what type of...

    reading charts basics

OK some clues for you since it is the end of the year. :D Learn how those Algos at IB work. They are used by large players. They move the market. Most of us who have been around have read over 100 books on trading. And that gave use about 100 useful nuggets of information. Youtube has too...

What happens when you are at 80% daily max of your loss from the previous trade? Then you put on another trade because you have not hit 100%. Is the new loss limit 20% the new trade of your max loss or is it 100% of a trade? And if it happens you end up with 180% of max loss. I.e. how will...

    How do you lose trades?

Here is the rub, per that post by Volperi: 1) Every instrument has its own behavior. ES for instance backtracks a lot. If you have methods that cannot tolerate that, it does not work out well. Likewise, you can go with the flow and use it to your advantage as he does. 2) If your mental...

Also log the number trades, hours and trades/hour. It depends upon how much fatigue each trade "taxes" you, but you will probably find that about 80 trades or 5 days, or some #trade or time or trades/time threshold, is when the sub-optimal trades occur.

Let AI program your crappy strategies

For a niche such as Day Trading, it might be easier to ask: "How to day trade?" and then "how NOT to day trade?" then take those pieces ask it that for the code templates.

Kudos for genuinely willing to put in the work with a good attitude. :fistbump: Some other self-reflection questions. What are the "abort" conditions besides end of day or total P/L? If there is "failure", what will you be able to eliminate from your methods. At this point for...

    CPU selection...(help)

Just to be clear, the Wifi-cell is for hardline failure roll over backup only. It actually works pretty good for me, such that in about 4-5 seconds I am reconnected. For sure a poor mans solution, but at least it does work, is testable on a regular basis.
