Buying Strong Stock When the Overall Market is "Way Down"...Thoughts?

I use to do this as well. I think it's a novice strategy. Not saying bad, but the very 1st strategy that comes to mind. But instead of using strong stocks I use the technique to identify them. Example, if Nasdaq down 200 points and a stock hasn't decline on any news, than that was considered...

Teaching A 5 Year Old How To Trade

I guess longterm investing could be possible as it's more straight-forward and less reliant on psychological factors. Without life experience daytrading will be difficult.

Buying Strong Stock When the Overall Market is "Way Down"...Thoughts?

I don't think that's a good strategy because a strong stock isn't gonna fall much anyways in a bear market unless your talking about 9/11. There are much better strategies for roi that are more consistent.

Not reporting taxes until next year

I've a curious question. Hypothetically, if you made 50k in 2016 in the stock market but didn't do your taxes that year and then loss 50k in 2017. Would the capital losses you report in 2017 offset the taxes you've to pay in 2016 or does it not work in backwards fashion?

    GALE

Earnings on aug 9th. Already spiked from .40 to .50 areas a couple of times already and showed strong support at .45. Also, got an eye on Gevo. Expected positive ER on aug 9th. Had some ridiculous 10 sec selloffs if you were watching this closely today. I think MM trying to buy at a lower price...

    Interest on Debit trades

Wait, I think he just involuntarily answered that question for the both of us... I've been daytrading stocks for a month now. I think I even freerided a couple of times without knowing what it was. My bank hasn't flagged me yet or given me any warnings.

Btw! Are you sure T+3 applies for both Buy and Sell and not just the Buy side?

    Interest on Debit trades

Arghh..... I am gonna have to check on this with my bank just to be safe! But I think I should be fine! I borrowed $600 to buy a stock 3 days ago! My balance showed -$600. Then sold it today at the same price for $600 and my balance became 0. So what I think is even if the funds are unsettled...

    Interest on Debit trades

I see what you mean but I don't think that's how my bank runs or aleast that not how it works when it comes to borrowing money... I don't have to wait for the settlement date when selling stocks. Whenever I sell the stock that balance becomes available right away in my account. Do they...

    Interest on Debit trades

Nope, I think that's not how it works... My bank told me if I paid within the tradedate plus 3 business days I won't be charged interest at all. But if I don't have money after the 3rd day then they will charge me a hefty 21% interest.

    Trade date or "T+3."

Is the settlement date always at market close? Example, I bought a stock on Friday 9:30 AM. Then I have up to Wednesday 4pm to settle the funds? Is this correct?

    Interest on Debit trades

I am from Canada so I never did have to deal with ptd rules. I am planning to change brokers soon as my bank doesn't even allow me to short. The only reason I am using them is they don't have a minimum requirement to open.

    Interest on Debit trades

My bank allows me to borrow up to 1x without a margin account but requires that I do my contribution within 3 days unless I want to pay 21% interest which is crazy. Does anyone have a similar bank that does this and know if selling the securities within the timeframe works or not as I don't...

    Can't Make Money

Look, I am not stupid enough to mistaken when someone is being rude & disrespectful okay? I know what I read & felt. Enough of this talk. Can't Make Money

I just won't let anyone decide for me whether I should get offended or not by his advice. That's just absurd. I believe that should be my choice to make. From my perspective, it really wasn't bad advice (nothing I wasn't made aware of already.) but it was spoken so bluntly it got to the point it...

    Can't Make Money

This never had anything to do whether I was an amateur. I simply didn't like how cocky & rude he was given the advice. You guys are saying that just because I am new I don't have the option to become offended by his advice since everything he said made sense. He has the right to be an asshole...

    Can't Make Money

Thanks for the offer but I think I'd rather invest in myself if I had the funds. No disrespect or anything. I would say the same if Buffet came knocking on my doorstep.
