    Futures or Stocks?! The truth

So if I owned 1000 shares of MSFT (~27k worth), great I OWN it. But what does my 0.000000102...% stake get me? I don't have much swing when it comes to voting for directors or such, so I might as well be trading a derivative right? With derivatives I don't own it, but I CONTROL shares. I...

TXU- Largest private equity buyout ever

No I'm not intimately familar with buyouts and I've avoided anything to do with buyouts for the last 7 years because of that. I'm also not denying that illegal insider trading goes on. What I want to know is that if KKR the entity bought ahead of it's own offer, is that illegal? And if a...

TXU- Largest private equity buyout ever

ok I'd like to learn then. I've been scouring the SEC site but am having a hard time finding anything that exactly matches this situation. I've found lots of good information at these two links: http://www.sec.gov/news/speech/speecharchive/1998/spch221.htm...

TXU- Largest private equity buyout ever

Right, and who says it wasn't the company doing the buyout buying the shares. What's illegal about that?

TXU- Largest private equity buyout ever

Sorry, I was actually replying to Scalper007's accusation that it must be illegal trading that lead the price up and offered a more plausible explanation. (not that illegal insider trading never happens, but seems lots of people jump strait to that conclusion.

TXU- Largest private equity buyout ever

Is it possible that KKR was the one that ran the price up? If I was going to buy something outright at a premium and I had the chance to by part of it lower and then more options on parts of it lower why wouldn't I? (up to the legal limit) It could move the price substantially, but as...

    daytrading loans

I hate jumping on threads like this, but if you put me in first position on your title, I'll give you a decent rate up to around 90% LTV. (ok, not zero down, but close enough) This joker has no collateral at all.

    Married Calls

arrg, but you have to buy twice the number of calls. decay per 2 calls = decay per 1 call + 1 put -100 shares + 2 calls EXACTLY EQUALS 1 call + 1 put (accounting for dividends and cost of carry and is worse from a margin standpoint) Adjustments can be identical. If you buy the call and...

    Taxes and Trading.

I've always wondered what that 3k meant. For example... 2005 return -10k, claim -3k, roll -7k 2006 return +20k -7k was carried over to 2006, now can the -7k be written off 2006 to only pay tax on 13k? Or does 3k mean only -3k off the 20k for a tax on 17k carrying the remaining -4k over...

Transition from Beginner to Pro Trader. How?

This months Fortune issue had an interesting article titled Exellence. They talked about the idea of the "Ten year rule", in that it is a rough estimate of the minimum time it takes to become "world class" in many activities. The biggest take away was that it will take time and hard work no...

    Today marks the Spx top

Right, look at a three year chart of the SPX. We are smack against the upper trend line. We could ride it higher, but probabilities would have to say we drop back to the middle of the channel at least in the short term.

    IB or Thinkorswim?

I stated stocks with Fidelity (free gold account from my employer), then went with TOS for options. Now I'm looking at moving my Fid to IB and keeping TOS. From what I've seen IB and TOS would complement each other well and provide most of what anyone could want retail.
