    Exact 2:1 Leverage?

I have a simple question: How do you get exactly 2:1 leverage in an equity instrument? If you borrow from your broker, you are getting less than 2:1 because of the interest you pay on the borrowed money. If you buy a futures contract, you get less than the 2:1 because you lose the cost of carry...

Why won't this make easy money?

I think I found a way to some easy money. This can't be right, so please explain the error in my thinking: Go long the EUR/USD currency pair (currently at about 1.2531 on IdealPro). Then sell short 1 EUR FX futures contract (December contract at about 1.2574). This should yield about...

In the year 2020, which corporation will have the highest market cap. in the world?

I agree with most posts here.. some company we have yet to hear about. It took decades to get the automobile to the mass market. It took almost as long for the telephone. Years for the lightbulb. Then the computer (even less time), the internet.. VOIP a few months and ticking...

    Systematic US Equities Investing

Mahras, I enjoyed your journal and hope you can trade your systems again in the future. As for the last few months, how did your cash account differ from your model account? Were there significant divergences? Did liquidity or trading fees play a role? Or did your system trade accurately...

Can state run pensions use derivatives?

I know that the New York Teacher's Pension invests in Venture Capital... only a very small portion is allocated to such 'risky' investments, but they do certainly invest in them. As for actual derivatives, I would have to assume so.. even speculatively.

    How to hedge Al Qaeda?

One play would be to sell short a straddle after the attack... that would most likely be a profitable trade. However, my concern is how to hedge my entire portfolio. I wonder if there is any way to do this other than by buying puts.

    How to hedge Al Qaeda?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.... I'm not sure how far out they announce a warning and then the attack. But they did warn before a number of them and I think it was a few months out. 9/11 is almost here too... not sure how that plays into things. I normally don't buy into all this hype. Its...

    How to hedge Al Qaeda?

How to hedge terrorism? I watched a CNN program about Al Qaeda. They said that before every attack, Al Qaeda is required by their custom to 'request that Americans convert to the Muslim faith'. If Americans do not convert, this justifies their impending attack. Al Qaeda just released a...

FORGET ABOUT OANDA, new kid on the block is..

MBT-Steve, I think this happens from time to time on IB's IdealPro. Sometimes banks will not transact your trade at the 'stale' price, even though it was on the system. However, if a non-bank participant were to have a 'stale' bid/offer on the system, he/she would be committed to that if...

Who can lose $1,000,000 in 3 months?

ok ok ok ok ..... Sure, you could eat it all away on commissions and hitting the bid/offers and such. But aside from that obvious approach, an ability to consistently pick losing trades can be reversed to produce winning trades. The assumption here is that any method that consistently loses...

FORGET ABOUT OANDA, new kid on the block is..

With an ECN, all bids and offers on the system are legitamate. If you see a price, you can take the price. With IB, this is the case 99% of the time, however, sometimes there are latent or stale prices out there that banks will not honor. Remember the old days when you'd have to call your...
