    Protection against interest rate hikes

When I was invested in the mREITs (NLY, AGNC, etc.) years ago I used TLT OTM puts. It worked okay but when the credit conditions deteriorated in 2014 I sold the mREITs. Probably best to match maturities with a proxy and buy OTM puts. You may benefit from the ORATS people since they have...

Inverse ETFs for the upcoming crash: UVXY TZA SQQQ SDOW SPXU

The traders definitely didn't like the Google earnings report. Microsoft was okay I think of course we wont know until tomorrow. Better hope Apple & Amazon are better. NQ down 194 points (1.5%) after regular close at 1500 CST. Looks like another ugly day tomorrow or it could be like Monday and...

Australia’s property boom making the nation poorer

Liar Loans are 2 words you don't want hear in relation to real estate -- that was the beginning of the collapse in the US real estate sector starting in Jan 2007. An orderly decline is okay but a large decline would lead to a cascade of losses which could trigger all kinds of nastiness. In the...

    RobinHood...

They have $6.3B in cash & equivalents and another $6.7B in receivables and a market cap of $8.6B. Of course they are bleeding $100M per quarter in cash. Seems like a buyout candidate for some PE, LBO or competitior maybe FTX or Coinbase. *Data was from CFRA for 2021Q4 via my TD Ameritrade account.

Inverse ETFs for the upcoming crash: UVXY TZA SQQQ SDOW SPXU

Another day another collapse. The selling on the FAANG & Semis was relentless in the morning. I think FNGD was up 14% at the peak.

    Growth vs Defensive vs Cyclicals

There are ETFs that cover these areas but they extremely illiquid. I believe Invesco covers these their DWA series of ETFs. Your best bet is to stick with the 11 sectors you mentioned and weight them yourself. SSGA makes the SPDR ETFs. They are fairly liquid especially XLF, XLU, XLK & XLE...

Australia’s property boom making the nation poorer

I didn't realize Morrison is a life long government official and he also worked in the NZ government for Tourism: Early career After graduating from university, Morrison worked as national policy and research manager for the Property Council of Australia from 1989 to 1995.[2] He then moved into...

    Crash?

Why did CPI get to 20% in 1948. This seems possible now since I assume it was the post-war dislocation that skyrocketed CPI. Isn't that what the talking heads mean by "supply chain issues."

    Bitcoin Price Thread

That poll is just a measure of what is popular on Twitter, but I would say BTC would be the first. The QQQ correlation to BTC is a consequence of institutions getting involved in it and in the same vein that is the reason if there is another dislocation like March 2020 or September 2008 BTC &...

    How was this crash obvious?

The amazing statistic is the 7% straight down collapse of the Nasdaq 100 from the open on Thursday morning to the close on Friday. On Thursday it went from +2% to -2% in about 6 hours intraday.

Inverse ETFs for the upcoming crash: UVXY TZA SQQQ SDOW SPXU

I am long UVIX, SQQQ, SARK & FNGD. I also have the UVXY 15 weekly calls (exp. 4/29/22). UVXY is much more liquid than UVIX but its 2X vs. 1.5X for UVXY. I am also short the MNQ since Thursday afternoon. I have a feeling Sunday night/Monday morning will be down but there will probably a rally...

Australia’s property boom making the nation poorer

That's a mere $900K/bedroom. These prices are similar to the San Francisco Bay Area where I live. So these people are using 10-20% down and getting a $1.4M loan? Are these no-recourse loans like here in California? That's one of the reason the banks were in dire straits after the housing...

Beginning of a bear market 2022?

If inflation doesn't come down soon, the high P/E stocks will continue to drop. The real problem is the Fed still doesn't take inflation serious -- if they were they would have stopped QE back in November when Powell claimed inflation wasn't transitory anymore. All they have done since early...

Beginning of a bear market 2022?

I remember Cramer back in the 1998-2001 days when he ran thestreet.com and he was pumping Iomega among other graveyard tech stocks. It didn't end well for Iomega shareholders. I believe there is a Nova episode (PBS) in the early 2000s about the dot com imposion and Cramer was interviewed in it...

    How was this crash obvious?

I should add yesterday was a day I knew something was wrong when all the resource stocks I owned were down heavy for no reason I could think of. I mean Fertilizer prices were higher and the stocks were upgraded but they all got killed by like 5-15% from IPI to MOS to CF. I assume it was the...

    How was this crash obvious?

NQ futures dropped 7 percent from yesterday's open to today's close. That is a crash level move for sure. I've been short since April 5 2022 but up until today the damage was mainly in the NQ but it has spread to YM & RUT. I did reverse my swing positions for about 14 hours between April 20...

Indicators I use for gauging stock market momentum

Very useful information. I always check the country ETFs that are making new 52-week highs. The UAE ETF is pretty amazing. Its done better than even KSA and its gone straight up since the March 2020 lows but it is pretty illiquid. UAE ETF is mainly real estate development & banks. I guess they...

    Bear Red Flag?

Good call. I was whipsawed yesterday but as soon the 2-hour went red I went short. This market is crazy volatile intraday. Looks like no one seems to no where it is headed short-term. The funniest thing on bubblevision is the talking heads saying that the rate hikes are all discounted in the...

CNN+ Sinking faster than a Russian warship!!!

Yeah CNN was great in its hay day but it was probably a consequence of limited competition & the Ted Turner effect. He was a Branson/Musk type character with a lot of charisma.

Another amazing reversal of fortune. QQQ down 4% from the high to low intraday. FNGU down 16% intraday. Its interesting that FB seems to be in the same doghouse as NFLX which seems strange but maybe someone knows that earnings report is going to be terrible again. Its amazing the VIX barely...
