I don't follow GM but received some shares as part of my Dad's estate. He worked for them.
Any guesses on the odds of GM getting concessions on retiree benefits, especially health care? How about the odds of a spinoff of GMAC?

I trade a slightly modified version on ER2 and started trading it in late January. So far, it has made me about $750. Not bad for a simple system that only triggers a couple times a week.

Personally, I like the idea of a national sales tax because IMO I will pay a lot less in taxes and could find easy ways to avoid its impact.
Politically, I think it is DOA:
1. Members of congress get a lot of money from campaign contributors to tinker with the tax code (to reduce taxes...
I'm gonna be dissappointed if the national sales tax doesn't get passed. I'm thinking of all the ways to beat it:
Purchasing coops for clothing, etc. since businesses don't get taxed, it seems if the coop buys them (no tax) and then the members buy from the coop.
Trips to Mexico. Border...
While I think there is merit to a national sales tax and IMO, I would pay less taxes than under the current system.
However:
1. Will rents be taxed. If yes, how will homeowners be taxed and how complicated will that paperwork be?
2. How will cross border purchases be managed: I...
I'm a real novice in RE investing but I'm enjoying this thread. The comment about we may be at the 25 year high got me to wondering, what has history shown.
The attached graph, the Freddie Mac, year over year price change index, shows no down year. That is to me a big surprise. Is there...
Mike,
I'm not a RE speculator but I do own a condo in Fl that in the past 3 years went from 135 to 400k in value based on sales of similar units. It seems to me there is a bubble there but each time I review the RE sales in the area (Palm Beach County, property is on the ICW), the prices go...
There is a big difference between what amounts to in many cases a commodity, tech, and re. Realestate in some places like NJ is in very limited supply. Waterfront property is also in short supply if at all available.
RE is all about location. Tech depending on which space you are talking...
But in reality there are enourmous amounts of oil already discovered but not in production. For example, the heavy oil reserves in Canada and in the Orinico basin are many times larger than the reserves Saudi Arabia claims to have. Putting it into production is very capital intensive...
My example of why TS is a poor broker is their fairly recent outage of their trade server.
A brief summary of this travesty:
1. the server failed; ie, you could not make any trades!
2. checking their "network status" page showed "All Green" as it always does.
3. the support line was...
I'd like to see a list of how intelligent design may be disproved. Same for evolution.
The hallmark of a scientific theory is that the theory may be disproved by observation or experiment. We all accept gravity as a fact but there have been many attempts to develop a theory that explains...
