If you were going to build a High Frequency Trading system on a custom linux solution, I think you would need a data source that was a lot more advanced. You'd need full time & sales as well as level 2 depth. This is my point. The options appear to be really limited.

I believe the standard API is different to the desktop API. The desktop API is for retail customers and costs about $70 per month. It has a symbol limit. I think the standard API is probably what trading software providers like ensign and ninja are programming to.
