do you watch the news while you trade?

Generally agree with your approach on news. The 10am major economic news items I take account of but only as a distortion to the predicted days pattern (eg YM). FOMC too tends to make price swing big in the direction of the predicted pattern. As you say keep it technical. :)

    True or False

Agree. Always assuming you've first done all your study, work and training to know your market. :)

    preopen markets a 'setup'

This is an interesting question. I don't have any stats on pre-market index futures. If it is the pre-market YM, presumably you would expect this to correspond to the London stock market until NY opens.

The intelligent man is not greedy or fearful

So sweet. Irrelevant meanderings off the point, TraderNik, TraderDick. The overriding priority is that you have to get to know very well the market you trade in. That is the requirement to get noobies and traders winning before they need to "spend time working on their souls." KISS :)

The intelligent man is not greedy or fearful

I have never recommended reading books about trading . Neither the words 'intellectuality' or 'intelligence' are in my comments. You are debating with yourself. :)

The intelligent man is not greedy or fearful

No pal, you've got it wrong, yet again. You need to get over or get pass your bias, TraderNik. No one is saying anything against relaxation and pastimes away from trading. Thats normal. The fantasy that there is a passport to success through some sort of trained mindset or lalaland mind...

The intelligent man is not greedy or fearful

All understand that fear and greed adversely affect some, but your suggestion is horsesh*t. First and foremost you have to get down to doing the work and study. Learning to understand and know in detail the market you trade in is the initial overriding requirement. You are not going to win...

    $64,000 question

Yes I am amazed how stupid a few people can be. You are not going to be offered bets of coin flipping risking 1 penny to make 2 each time you win. It is not serious. Trading however is serious. You need to make sure you take from what the market offers each day. :)

    $64,000 question

Would you risk 32k to win 64k on a 50/50 guess? This is not a serious question. The definitive answer for traders is from Gordon Gekko: "I don't throw darts. I bet on sure things." :)

daytrading vs swing trading + longer term positions

Daytrading vs swing trading + longer term positions The distinction here is trading and investment. If you are mainly parking your own money but want to actively manage the return on it, it is longer term and not trading per se. If you are trading to accumulate money as a fast track...

    E-Signal Problem

On a general note, I switched a long time ago to Ensign/E-Signal from Q Charts which used to drive me nuts with all the disruption and problems on their service. Has Q Charts improved?

    lose motivation

This will sound boring. If the depressed or motivationless syndrome has become embedded, this will work. A 3 phase remedy: 1. Consciously decide and commit irrevocably to killing the problem .. just saying you've got the problem is not good enough. 2. Read or re-read one of the books on...

    True or False

You are not in this business to have bad days. But if so, stop. Do the study and revision to get your trading model right.

    Service Identifying Market direction

Yes. This service sits on top of your shoulders. Its called a brain. And if its a good one you can inform and train the mother to consistently get it right for the day ahead. :)

Would you Trade a System that failed a backtest ?

Whether a failed system or any system, the efficacy of backtesting available raw data is the real issue. If you want to establish predictability for each trading day in advance of the market Open (eg YM) then backtesting will not give you tradeable or reliable or sustainable results of any...

    Do Gaps Always Get Filled

Do Gaps Always Get Filled No. If you just want to say at some point it will get filled .. what is the point? Investorsources, I'd say do your own very detailed study on gaps because it is not as it seems. When a gap gets to a bigger size then taken together with certain supporting...
