    Candlesticks & stuff

tao - I see what you are saying and we will agree to disagree. I think it can be argued there is discretion in ANY trading system, incl candles.

    Candlesticks & stuff

tao - I disagree completely. Candlesticks cannot be easily programmed, so I am not sure where you heard they were easy to program. Yes, you can easily code a 'hammer' but a hammer in and of itself is not a legit buy/sell signal. Plus, candles, esp intraday are not a perfect science. So if your...

    Candlesticks & stuff

I think the point 273 was making was you CAN backtest candles, BUT NOT with a computer program. Candles are very 'back testable' (if that's a word) when done properly, which means basically doing it manually. There are not many computer programs out there that can properly detect true candle...

    Quiznos vs. Subway..

Quizno's all the way for a great tasting toasted sub. Something quick and easy - Subway.

Pay services that select your picks.

I can tell you what to avoid - bigtrends.com. They are just a bunch of salesmen preying on the greed of people. Granted this is spoken tongue in cheek, but hopefully I can save a few others from wasting their money there. AVOID BIGTRENDS.COM.

    Any free E-MINI charting

My suggestion is if you are serious about trading the e-mini's, then spend the few bucks to get real-time charting. You'll be able to save templates, get the data real-time, etc.

Is the "financial advisor" the new "stock broker"?

To answer the question - yes. "Stock Broker" has a negative conotation and now "Financial Advisor" is the title to have. It's the same thing, but the title sounds more fancy now.

Tax time - how to handle commissions

Eagle - any suggestions on what software since you obviously are going thru this now?

    An introducing broker.

crumb - if they won't tell you which FCM they plan to use for you, I would just hang up the phone and move on. There are plenty of brokers that will tell you this info.

    S/R Emini Journal

twink - I hear you on this one. I don't post in this thread a lot, but am a lurker. I found that for me, a trail stop just did not work. I seemed to move it too quickly (gotta protect that profit) and would get stopped and then watch the trade move in my direction. For me, I stopped using trail...

    An introducing broker.

crumbs - an IB in futures is basically the firm that markets and tries to get new customers. Now they (usually) are not the ones placing your trades on the exchanges - an FCM does that. Some FCM's do not like/want to market to the retail trader, so they partner up with an IB that does all the...

es profit on 1/4 point can it be done?

saxon - sure it can be done. You may need an automated strategy to do it, but it could be done. Like austin I would rather go for a larger move and trade less, but to each his own. There's plenty of liquidity there for you to scalp .25 all day. And if you trade all day you'll get a great...

    UC Berkeley Senior Needs Guidance

Cal - I will offer this - once you have adequate trading capital, now is a great time to test the waters. You are young with little obligations. If it doesn't work, you chalk up a year or so to 'starting your own business' and move on. If you don't do it, you will always wonder what if...

    Best finance, trading, money websites

What websites would you consider to be the best in terms of graphic design for finance, trading, money, etc? A friend of mine is a graphic designer and was looking for some ideas of what types of designs traders like and what is appealing when you first go to a site. Any feedback or...

ER2 - how many contracts at a price level for entry?

Just curious how many contracts you think the ER2 could fill at one - two price levels if the order is sitting there for a bit? I use buy stops and sell stops for entries, so I have time to get the order out there, but with the ER2 volume more attractive lately I was wondering how many I...

    Tax and accounting forum

Apex - gotcha, that makes sense. Perhaps a simple renaming of an existing area would clear the confusion and possibly open up ET to some more advertisers.

Selling Steve Nison stuff on Ebay

UPDATE: I had a buyer use the Buy It Now feature on one of the Nison auctions. There is still one more Nison auction along with a Traders Int'l auction. Good bidding! Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions!! http://tinyurl.com/kvs2a

Which stocks would you hold for 30 years?

ETF's are a great idea as well - if you ETF's are acceptable I would lean towards those.

Which stocks would you hold for 30 years?

Interesting post Eagle. I don't trade stocks and this would be considered a 'long-term investment' - but with that being said my 5 would be (in no particular order): Best Buy Electronic Arts Google CME Bank of America That was actually kind of fun. I was a financial advisor years...

    Tax and accounting forum

Not sure I follow Snoop - are you saying that there is a tax area already and this recommendation is just expanding a current area? That is how I read your post - there is already a stocks forum and then you say we could have a forum per stock. Maybe I missed it, but I don't see a tax/accounting...
