    Predicting randomness

You're thinking to hard. 1,000 / $1,000 = $1 per share. The fact that some of the money and shares is currently your property doesn't change the average value per share. Only after someone pays a different price per share, does the average value per share change.

    Predicting randomness

Someone asked for a definition of random -- so I gave my definition. All of a sudden, everyone is asking how to defeat the randomness of the market, or stating that they don't find market outcomes to normally distributed. I propose that you actually undertake to analyze and play the game...

    Predicting randomness

My definition of random for the purposes of the equities markets is, a condition wherein all possible future profit/loss outcomes fall into a normal distribution, and where the center of the distribution (i.e., expected value) equals zero.

Market makers earn a consistent living in the market. You make this sound like a pejorative.

    Predicting randomness

Yes, I meant the ideal daytrader, primarily because being flat overnight is the ideal of someone seeking to avoid the risk of not being able to react to external events when the market can't be traded. However, even if the game is played every day, nothing has changed. Everyone comes back...

    Predicting randomness

I left nothing out. You assume that the real stock market is substantially different than my game, when, in fact, it is not -- the real market and the game are nearly identical. On any given market day, only X dollars and Y shares are available for trading in all securities accounts. The...

    Predicting randomness

Whether the market is or is not random is irrelevant to your ability to make money trading. The only thing that is required from the market is price movement. The more price movement there is, the more money you can make. I'm probably gonna catch all sorts of flack for this post, but consider...

IB Really Wants REFCO, IB now top bidder at $858M

As an IB customer with multiple accounts, I hope IB's proposed acquisition of Refco doesn't impair IB's status as one of the only decent retail trading firms in the market.

VIRUS WARNING...DO NOT VIEW "IN GAAP WE TRUST" thread...

If you have Java Runtime on your system, attempting to view the above-named thread, causes a download of a .jar file that my McAfee Enterprise version virus detection software detects and disables as a Trojan threat. I have no idea what's up, but I suggest that no one view the "GAAP" thread...

    definition of vesting?

"Vesting" simply means that a person has a legal property interest in the subject matter. For example, if your father names you in his Will as sole beneficiary, that is what is known as an "unvested" future interest, because your Father can change his will at anytime prior to death, and your...

    Best software for scalping equities

I think maybe you have a different definition of "scalping" than I do. For me, scalping means to sit on one stock and make the "spread" over and over all day long. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't. And, for that, software is a small component, because what really matters is your...
