    New Jack Hershey Poll

Speaking of hershey... He is quite similar to "scientists" presented in "Fashionable Nonsense: Postmodern Intellectuals' Abuse of Science" by Alan Sokal. You can also find an explanation of creating such a BS in "Fooled by Randomness" by N. Taleb, chapter "Monte Carlo, Nonsense, and the...

Brother Candle, I would like to ask you one more question about your performance. How long are your bad trading periods? You mention 20% drawdowns as not uncommon. It would be really painful to lose 1/5 of capital in such a short period like, let's say 1 week...

We may also say market always goes somewhere :) I prefer to call it non-linear type of movement. In the sea of noise and chaos these systems try to catch over-shoots, hence profit targets. If you have something better, we're all ears.

Breakout systems aren't better on 5m, 15m, 30m, hourly bars. EMA crossovers with shorter periods give poorer performance... Within 1-12 / 12-28 EMA; 1 - 7% profit targets on 5 min bars, best set is 12/28 with 5% target: net profit 804 pts.

I disagree. Using discretionary entry & exit and/or position size mgmt one can "beat" his own system. Most traders can't beat systems, but some are able to do that. Curve fitting on historical data is simple. It is much harder to fit to the forthcoming curve. Take these two things...

This system is optimized. Not much room for improvement. I haven't found anything better than that. Maybe other members can show ES backtesting performance 2x better? Here's an example which shows how it is hard to choose the optimal parameters: Simple system, EMA crossover with profit...

    Gay marriages

What Vatican is saying about homosexual people is just stupid. Plain and simple. I'm not against gay, lesbian marriages, or marriage in traditional sense. I'm against the law which allow homosexual marriages to adopt children. http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual

Natalie, I think explanation is through real performance. You can also look at hypothetical backtesting results. My optimized systems produce up to 1.7 point/day on S&P index data (swing and intraday trading systems). For example: System based on 5 minute bars, optimized parameters...

Do you know how liquid forex market is? Is there any forex day trader at a bank who is making 1000%/year? I've never heard about any one. And it's 24h market not 6.5h like ES, SP. No commissions. But the funniest thing is calculating profit potential by adding intraday bars ranges.

    Scalping ???

Great article, thanks. Quote: "I couldn't understand from the screen how prices were determined. It took me six months to be able to read prices in the pit. [...] I learned about market dynamics in my second sixth months than from years on a desk. I learned that traders' income is not the...

It's not exactly like that. You can't compound each +1% if you start trading with for example 5 contracts. You would have to be up 20% to adjust your size to 6 contracts. Let's count it that way: Trade 1 contract for every $5k. Start with $50k, make 2 points /day (one ET member claims it's his...

    Why trade at all?

With 50 big contracts he probably trades ~$2-$4M capital. Sure it's possible to make 3/4 M in 7 months.

    Why trade at all?

    Really? $180k / (50*$250) = 14.4 pts /day

    Why trade at all?

What?? 180k in a day with 50 lots? You missed a dot in that number. 1.80k /day with 50 lots, that will be 1800 / (50*50) = 0.72 ES pts /day. Sorry, English is not my 1st language, I don't understand "shy of your number by 20"... I guess you mean "divide your number (1.5 pts/day) by 2" - to get...
