POLL: Typical maximum % risk of account exposed at any one time

Pabst is right. The less you bet, the more risk you take. A lot of traders put as little as $5k for trading 1 ES or NQ contract hope for getting additional source of income ~10k/year (if they trade part-time) or primary income ~20k (full-time trading). In order to make that much they must risk...

What's a cost efficient way to PROVE your track record to eventually start hedge fund

Is John W Henry on the cover of every financial magazine? Take a look at his fund performance: http://www.iasg.com/SnapshotPT.asp?ID=169 Avg 30% p.a. for 10.1984 - 07.2003 period. Net after fees. Before 2% mgmt and 20% incentive: +40% a year. Avg return would be much worse if we won't...

    Any thoughts on this article?

Great thread, I really enjoy it. Niederhoffer vs Taleb... In the very long run, they're both dead :( The trick is to: 1. Minimize the risk of blow out during one's lifetime (something VN isn't good at) 2. Attract more and more trading capital (something VN is probably good at)...

    Optimization, curve-fitting and probability

droth, Read 'Optimization, The Double-Edged Sword' Quote from the article (page 3): "One of my observations over years of strategy development is that profitability of a strategy is inversely proportional to its complexity. Keeping this rule in mind, you should avoid too many signals...

    Baron has NO clue

Good decision, Baron. You should also ban FPC/LongShot/Gordon Gekko/ROCK SOLID/skrilla_manilla/Fruity Pebble and Scientist, due to similar reasons. They post much much crap: hershey made 1500 posts in 6 months (many looong ones) FPC total ~6000 in 20 months scientist ~600 in 3 months...

    TA works or not?

When you look at CTAs & hedge funds performance indicies (adjusted for survivorship bias) you'll see positive returns. As far as I know, majority of these managers use TA and FA or some related methods. There is also "statistically significant persistence" in their performance. See...

    TA works or not?

Does TA/FA works? The answer can't be sharp, it oscillates somewhere around the middle. I can also respond: "It depends" :D

judge not moving 10 commandments statue from u.s.a. gov. property

You mean humans were in desperate need of help? 10k years B.C. people were living without Jesus. Perhaps God should send him to Iraq, North Korea and Africa... Japanese people are living without Christian beliefs and look - they're pretty happy :) (OK, maybe they work too much )

judge not moving 10 commandments statue from u.s.a. gov. property

No, I wouldn't believe he is God or God's son. The concept of God as a creator of the Universe and the whole concept of creation from 'nothing' to 'something' is illogical. It is very strange theory. Besides, why would God need to send his son down to Earth? To prove what? - That is even more weird.
