Buying a ROUTE - ideas, info, advice

My brother and I are thinking of buying a ROUTE. For those unfamiliar with the concept here is a quick synopsis: You basically purchase the right to sell a given product within a specific territory. In smaller, less populated parts of the US it could be a county or two. In th cities it is...

    franchise dilemma.

After weeks of investigation. My brother have decided to abandon the franchise business in general and pretzel gig in particular. It looks good on paper and the folks selling it make it sound like a sure thing and ticket to financial paradise and total freedom. So far my 100k is still intact...

$9 Gallon of Milk, $8 Gallon of Gas: Oh Really?

Not if you factor in the probability of getting cancer from drinking the stuff you call milk.

$9 Gallon of Milk, $8 Gallon of Gas: Oh Really?

Anybody has noticed what is going on in Haiti? Buying more expensive pretzels or $4/gallon milk might not put many of people in the US in the poor house, but thee are plenty of folks who will enter a very lean period if those prices stay where they are (outside of the US that is).

Explain Why Your Life Is So Bad

true but your rail/underground service is extensive and offers all kinds of discounts. Not to mention your cars do get a much higher millage out of that gallon. In the US a lot of people drive SUVs and huge (by EU standards) mini vans. It is not uncommon to get 20l/100KM for most of them. Also...

Case in point. It seems to me that opening any kind of business outside of NYC is so much easier and a lot less expensive. Unfortunately, for me it is either NY or bust. :)

Before we venture any further,my brother wanted to see if there is traffic and if the place is selling. Both questions came up resounding yes and yes.

Sometimes paying the bills takes precedence over doing what you love. I for example would love to be an academic librarian, but the pay would not be enough to survive much less enjoy life in NYC. And to boot it is not easy to get a gig like this. Seems plenty of folks with two MAs or even PHD...

    franchise dilemma.

Well, my brother did and the place was jumping. From 11 o'clock in the morning, the line formed and stayed constant till around 6 PM. There are 2 locations in the same mall and they were both busy (must be the smell of the pretzels). The problem is that the company has an open slot for another...

You are right, the big R is here and people are slow to spend. Having said that, even those who are on the financial edge have to eat when they go shopping. Last time I went to the mall, there were plenty of folks walking around and the food stalls were as busy as ever.

I hear you loud and clear. Looks like you have been around the block when it comes to these types of establishments. Now since class "C" type is a long term slavery and class "A" is the way to make decent $$$$ and have a life of sort, which one would you propose? Which franchises are woth the...
