    Grain Market Poll

It depends on whether inflation rears it's ugly head. That being said, I doubt that we will see the irrational exuberance of the last bull market. Anyways, the easiest money in the grains is in the spreads.

BIG nosed Peter Costa, MSNBC Analyst/Floor Trader/whatever else.

That's why you shouldn't watch those guys. I know that I have enough trouble seeing things without having TV pundits cloud my vision.

    I'm going long here

But what about those 50%bear markets? They happened all the time in the 1800's.

Can anyone really predict the future direction of the mkt?

Here's a link to a 100 year chart in the US. There is that upward drift. http://bigpicture.typepad.com/comments/2005/12/100_year_bull_b.html

    Cannabis - A Wonder Drug?

I tried trading in the pit a few times after smoking weed back in the early 80's. I lost the spread relationship in my cognitive thought process. My thinking was so slowed down, my bids and offers were way off the inside market. Any edge was gone. On those days, I turned into a human ATM...

    the market in 1929-31

Bulk acreage here in Florida is still commanding quite a premium, with large ranches still being offered at 40-80MM. However, I don't know what the bids, if any, are. The housing market is still out of line, despite the number of foreclosures. Europeans seem to be keeping this market on life...

    the market in 1929-31

But it would serve one well to note that during the great depression, there were still bull markets. Commodities outperformed stocks during that time for example. One must also note that depressions present great buying opportunities for the astute, sagacious investor.

    Lost Need Advice????

I made the transition from the wheat pit to the screen pretty seamlessly. Why don't you ask your buddies at your old clearing firm to help you out? Your pit knowledge will give you a different kind of edge that is foreign to most people around here. Jeff

Worst 1-Day Decline for SPX since 1987

You should have seen it in the wheat pit that day. Wheat opened a little lower, then went lock limit down. Since I was spread out the wazoo, I wasn't affected at all. I do remember grown men crying, and a lot of coke being snorted in the stairwells that day. That night at the bar, we all got...

"The time to buy is when blood is running in the streets."

Blood on the streets would be a day with a 20-40%decline. I wonder what % of posters on ET were even in the business in 1987 and traded on that decline.

"The time to buy is when blood is running in the streets."

Research your statements before you make a fool out of yourself. Study the literature, and read Clews. Of course he was from the 1800's, so that probably wouldn't count in your mind. If you can read a book 1500 posts since March. Do you just post on this board and bloviate, or is...

Options Market Maker Exemption: a question

The market maker ponies up the cash for an exchange seat, and you don't. Exchange membership has it's privileges.

The Atlas Shrugged sequence is actually happening

Ayn Rand described this type of person as a Second Hander. Seems to fit the bill. http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/secondhanders.html I used to run across a lot of these people over the last three decades in the markets who were fringe players. Their common denominator.......none of...

The Atlas Shrugged sequence is actually happening

That was classic. However that guy is still going to try to swing his bigger intellectual dick. He reminds me of some Aspergers patients my wife used to work with. I found the ignore feature on ET, which is so cool. Jeff

The Atlas Shrugged sequence is actually happening

Just curious, You successfully founded and sold 5 companies, were first in your class at university and in the military, speak 8 languages, are good in 4 others, have a masters degree, are a millionaire, made a bunch of your buddies rich, taught martial arts, and are under 40. You live...

The Atlas Shrugged sequence is actually happening

Scott, I've learned to expect the unexpected:) Also, I really don't like to argue during market hours as it takes my mind off the ball, and I'm juggling a lot of balls right now:) Jeff

The Atlas Shrugged sequence is actually happening

I wasn't throwing my PhD around, any more than you were throwing around your intellect, which happens to be first rate by the way:) My definition of fearless is when you walk into the pit short 3 million bushels of wheat, the market opens up $0.15 against you, and you manage to make a profit...

The Atlas Shrugged sequence is actually happening

During the brief time I was acquainted with her, she seemed to be totally at ease with her life, history, and accomplishments. She was an utterly charming woman with grace, good manners and a first rate mind. Her people skills and manners were beyond reproach. When you refer to her people...
