Trading Down Under - SnP and others

My view of the markets is that they are reasonably effiecient [most of the time] and that they move on news. News will change the preceived risk, quantum, or timings of the future cashflows of the various instruments. I favour a gauge theory of price movement instead of an absolute or...

Will today be an up day??

    1. Jobs sucked 2. Retail sales down 3. Oil up 4. Salle Mae under admin [maybe] 5. AIG missed the mark by a mile. If we close up today I'm giving up trading..

AIG taking a big dump in the afterhours session futures taking a nosedive

Futures "usually" over react to news and usually "revert" once the market starts trading. However,, tomorrow we have job numbers out as the market has already rallied they would have t be stellar to move the market up. Expected or worse and we will see a down day.

    4 years later, still trading

Coolweb Nice thread. Are you advocating using the indicies to protect against market risk while you are long or short in individual stocks? Cheers

What's the relative corrlation between the ES and the SPY

I agree try trading the futures out of hours and it is even easier. If you don't get too greedy. I've made 18.5pts over the last 8 days [didnt trade on 2 of the days]. HOpefully it'll keep running for me, be aware though that one big loss could wipe out your hard earned profits pretty quickly...

No Mention of Supply and Demand in Trading?

Supply and demand is a hard one for stocks as it doesn't follow normal supply and demand curves. Usually as the price goods and services decrease demand will increase. However as the price of a stock decline demand will often decrease. This is because the price of the stock reflects...

who is making less than 20% a week roi in this great market

My 2c Man you guys are great, I'm up a pitiful 20% since April, but I know a few traders who are way down or have been wiped out. I only know 1 guy who has made good money this year and even hes been flat for him over the past 2 months. I have only been daytrading for 2 years so still...

Naked short rule to be applied across entire market

Sorry Beaker I meant trading will get back to normal. Bear raids, markets going both up and down in the same day. I don't really have a bias about whether the US will go into recession or not, if it does "most" of it should be priced in. Jobs and corporate proftis have held up pretty...

Naked short rule to be applied across entire market

Beaker You're a bit harsh, the SEC are trying to prevent bear raids on vulnerable financial stocks to allow them to recapitalise. This is better for everyone than a bailout. Things will get back to normal eventually. Personally I don't have a probelm with NSS, but I do have a problem...

A message to those that are failing....

Good post OP. Very thought provoking. I think I am starting to get it. 1. The only difference I can see between investing and trading is the timeframe, which is an arbitrary difference. So no-one can win that argument. If you look at the difference in terms of risk reward trading has much...

A message to those that are failing....

By blending investing and trading I guess the OP means that if the trade goes in your direction its a trade and if it goes the other way you've become an investor.

    What the F#@&

Please correct me if I am wrong but my understanding of technical levels are: 1. A level that with the benefit of hindsight accurately predicted the markets direction 2. A level that when applied prospectively has no greater statistical chance of predicting market direction than a randomly...

The SEC Has Lost All Credibility

Price action was pretty bearish today, it looked like a bit of profit taking with no bounce. Without the shorts I expect the next decline for the financials to be even more ferocious. IMO reg will be gone once FRE, FNM get recapitalised....

Money Mgmt beats Stops Everytime - Example

I've been using a similar strategy ie scaling in to a position. I close out if i gets to my maximum acceptable risk level ie loss level. I have struck 3 problems: 1. If the trade goes against me and gets to my maximum loss position I am guaranteed to make the maximum loss ie a 2.5% loss...

Buying in a panic lessons learned

Thanks for the info Port. Don't stress over the ET politics. I agree that what we do is just another form of gambling. You just need to recognise the high probability set ups and have the resolve to press the trigger on them. I do have a related question, after you take a position how do...

Buying in a panic lessons learned

Port Nice trade with a good result. Did you have a plan B or exit strategy if it all turned sour? IF so what was it if not why not. Thanks in advance
