Alternative Fuels May Be Postponed.... Again????

I strongly disagree with you. we need energy, period. Storage is not a colossal waist of money. It is not obvious that money should be spent on wind/wave/tidal. There seems to be this bias to think in terms of electrical usage only. Energy is fungible, at a cost based on transformation...

Alternative Fuels May Be Postponed.... Again????

Yep, that's another good one. I don't know enough to compare the different storages, but definitely efficiency will be a main criteria. You can also add a whole bunch of multi-ton fly wheels as a candidate. The capex for all this will be killer though.

Alternative Fuels May Be Postponed.... Again????

That's your explanation? Generation doesn't work that easily? how so? The generation works quite easily. Distribution? how so? 'it would have long been done' is not a good argument. Your 2nd point is not common sense. It is an assumption. It sounds like you have not done much homework...

Alternative Fuels May Be Postponed.... Again????

You're going to have to explain that. If you are referring only to the electrical grid, then my response would be that infrastructure changes will have to be made, money will have to be spent. Here's important info: http://www.ez2c.de/ml/solar_land_area/ I'll point out that the article...

some CAN stocks IB doesn't offer

from IB's faq I've searched around and cannot find what the .h, .u suffixes are for. Can anyone provide any info on that? Any idea why IB doesn't allow it and when they will? For say LPs & warrants, what do people use to buy those? While I'm asking, how about any of the other exhchanges...

The US Becoming Socialist By Default ? What to Do....

My prediction, terrorism, aka guerrilla warfare, is a long term problem and not specific to islam (they're the worst though). With overwhelming force from modern armies and a high technology society, that is the only option left - use that very same technology against itself. So, the idea is...

The US Becoming Socialist By Default ? What to Do....

Well, you did say 'a lot of extremism' and not 'all', but I would still like to emphasize that poverty has not been much of a predictor with regard to islamic terrorists. Indoctrination is a better thing to look at. A good clip to check out is...

South Africa ....a country going to hell !!!

So then how about a poll - especially for those who actually know what they are talking about. How risky is it to invest in SA companies? 1 - lowest risk 10 - highest risk

Alternative Fuels May Be Postponed.... Again????

Agree with that libertad. I would swap out solar for wind though, as wind apparently has far less total energy available then solar. And solar can provide more consistent energy supply.

Alternative Fuels May Be Postponed.... Again????

But the argument I heard was that it takes a long time to get nukes up and running -- so James Lovelock would be wrong, they are not a short term, immediate solution. EDIT: well ok, if you can get some nukes up in good time, throw money at that, but definitely throw money at all the good...

    Interest rates.

Question I have - for any econ guys - are the market fundamentalists / austrian school guys right that market determined interest rates are 1)better, 2)won't cause boom/bust cycles? As opposed to centrally controlled rates ala central banks.

We're also late for the land grab ...damn. The desert land the gov is allowing in CA, AZ have already been bid up 10X or more from their value just a few years ago.

Alternative Fuels May Be Postponed.... Again????

Isn't this where Venture Capital comes in? They make the bets as to which one of the choices wins. From the research I've done, it looks like solar as a source is a great bet to make, and there has been surprising results in a short period of time. And we can get serious large scale...

I've got some questions to add too- what's the minimum lot on the TSE? Can you get odd lots on there? If so, what are the issues with that?

    The ultimate carry trade

Maybe I'm ignorant about this, but I think people are over-complicating Cutten's trade. Buy jpy, no other collateral. buy REITs --> use REIT units as collateral for more units. Sit there and take in yield until something goes wrong (ie. rates go up). Hope prices don't go down more, or that...
