    Middle Office At Bulge-Bracket?

I apologize, I wasn't trying to come across as being offended. It was more of a thing out of respect; I didn't want to rile up someone of your standing on these boards. I sometimes find ET forums to be a stack of dynamite waiting to be lit. In any case, it's my fault as I should have articulated...

    Middle Office At Bulge-Bracket?

Hydro, no need to be combative. "Please stop talking about what you don't know" seems to be thrown around on this board pretty often. In my first reply I said it would be extremely difficult, especially given it was a bulge-bracket firm. He listed no other options so I suggested that his...

How do people trade in the pits?

Pit trading puts you right where the execution is taking place, so the execution is better than trading at home. This is a definite edge. In addition, being the pits gives you a pulse on the markets... the intensity of the pits lends itself as a market indicator as well as who is buying/selling...

    Middle Office At Bulge-Bracket?

The middle office job is essentially a foot in the door. He can prove himself while he's working there and have the opportunity to get to know the people in the front office and the people who make the decisions. Sure there's gonna be some politics here, but since he will be known to HR it will...

    Middle Office At Bulge-Bracket?

I'd imagine pretty difficult, especially at a bulge bracket firm. In the end though, it always boils down to personal connections. I'd suggest your friend get to know the traders in the front office and then always make it known, especially during performance reviews, that he wishes to go work...

emergency Fed cut predicted by Goldman strategists

Fed shouldn't be do anything... government regulation only creates problems. This is laissez-faire... let the market solve its own problems. A rate cut is not like a pill you take, it only prolongs the inevitable.

    PEAK OIL - A myth???

Peak oil isn't going to happen. Oil will price itself out of the market before all the oil is completely gone, just like coal and natural gas did during the industrial revolution. There's a lot of answers to be had from looking at the past... Already we see the process of oil pricing itself...

    Starting in the Game

Well, here's my thoughts. #1. I don't have a sizable bankroll, as I'm still in college. But I'm most likely going to be a proprietary trader next year when I graduate. If money becomes a problem then I'll get a night/weekend job, but if the prop firm salaries you then it shouldn't be too...

Securities Trader And Former UBS Executives Plead Guilty To Massive Insider Trading

This is cliche, but what's happened on the street will happen again... There are players who make the majority of their money based on manipulation and insider trading. It was like this 100 years ago, why would it be any different 100 years later...

    Fork In The Road

Best of luck with either decision, YT. I feel like I don't have much here to offer you because you have clear, concise goals in mind. Luck favors the prepared mind... and the world can only give you what you want if you know what you want. On a personal note, my own experiences and mistakes...

Is having your own hedge fund good idea vs. staying as prop.

10 MM is actually a really really small fund, I'd imagine in terms of liquidity it's an easy transition. I'd probably jump on this offer if I knew my strategies were scalable. There's a lot of flexibility with having that much capital.
