No Q's to short at IB

This isn't a recent occurence, it was happening often enough to me a year ago and is one of the reasons I left IB. Do a search on this site and you will find old threads complaining about IB's short inventory. Never had a problem with ETF's though.

    Pairs Trading Charting

Qcharts does work. I look at spreads from 60 minute bars going back three months to one minutes, always candles. You have to make sure you put a space before and after any math operator. (low * .75) - hd mer - mwd

    Echotrade Sterling users

Is anybody using the api interface with Sterling to do automated trading? I have some ideas for an automated system I'd like to implement, but I have absolutely no clue about programming. I was thinking of advertising at the local college to find a programmer I could hire to work with me in my...

    Don's Openings, Part 5

I've been putting a lot of time into some new strategies lately and have had to cut back on the daily posts to this thread. But in the interest of continuity, here are the stats of the last two weeks: Oct 25: Grossed $0.54 34 fills, 16 wins, 14 losses, 4 scratches, 53% win rate, -$791 net...

    Echotrade Sterling users

If you trade with Echotrade and use Sterling, you know that they add new features and update the product with impressive regularity. I've been in contact with one of the developers there about some of the new features and he was very helpful in answering my questions. These guys really do want...

    THC- crying in our beer

That's not how bullets work, but irregardless the only way to get a fill, long or short, was to send a market order and hope he didn't jack you too bad. He was coming in 50 cents to a dollar at a clip. I tried selling 25 cents below the bid a couple times with no fills and finally sent a...

    THC- crying in our beer

Yeah, I know that. Believe me, I was trying to cut my losses, but the specialist wasn't filling my orders. As to why I'm holding it, well he re-opened it for trading with 7 minutes left in the day, 5 dollars down from the last print, after a 50% haircut in 4 days. The company was out...

    Waxie's crappy infomercial

Ever seen these jokers at a trade show? At the New York one in February, all they had for a display was a table and a giant screen tv playing that thing in a continuous loop. Talk about embarassing.

    THC- crying in our beer

Anyone else get their ass whipped by this stock today? Looked like a good long when it made the V bottom at 11:20. I was long at $36.70 when it broke out of the congestion following that move. The he prints down 2 bucks on a 7.5 million share block. You'd think that's an all clear, that the...

    Why Go Pro?

They pay your exchange fees, which are significantly higher for professionals. There may also be software license fees per terminal. That's why some firms charge a desk fee, to cover the overhead for guys who don't trade much. If you do much volume at all, you don't pay it. It's $200 a month...

    Why Go Pro?

Depends on the firm, but if you have enough capital in your account, it usually isn't a problem. There is much more risk on overnights, so if you want to hold 2000 shares of IBM with $5k in your account, forget it. I can carry 15-20x my account equity overnight in diversified, hedged...

    NYSE Spreads wider this week?

This was my first losing week in three months and it was largely due to the slippage on exits from wide spreads and lack of liquidity. I traded FNM quite a bit the last few days and when it was time to get out, boom, the spread is 20 cents and you gotta pay up or roll the dice and hope it comes...

what got you into trading ??

It was 1994 and I had just moved to a mining town in northern Canada to be a firefighter/paramedic. The whole place was buzzing with 'diamond fever' as the first North American diamond fields were being discovered nearby. Everywhere you turned, you heard of someone staking a claim or making...

    Free spirits

I don't live in the NWT anymore, but I was considered a little off-center even by northern standards, and my old isp still keeps the site on their homepage. But I have no access to it, so can't fix the dead links. Kinda hokey, but some neat pics. Sleeping in a snowcave at -30 just for the...

    Don's Openings, Part 5

8 longs, 1 short. 7 wins, 2 losses, +$1.15. Came within a few hundred bucks of beating my best week ever for opening orders, that magical 06/21 triple witching. This despite my second largest loss ever with the strategy on Tuesday. The beers are on me this weekend boys!

    Don's Openings, Part 5

Cut the number of stocks down to about 50 this morning so I wouldn't get too many fills. Still got 15 positions, 8 longs, 7 shorts. Finished with 8 wins, 5 losses, 2 scratches, +$2.35. Two huge winners accounted for most of the profits. One downside of a lot of positions is you don't...
