What is it with TOS and the UK residents?

Maybe they offer lower commissions... Otherwise, a number of US brokers may offer access to certain Europen products for the convenience of their US customers. You know, global reach and all that jazz.

What is it with TOS and the UK residents?

It has to do with allowing trading on UK exchanges (LSE, LIFFE, LME). By opening a UK subsidiary a broker becomes subject to the UK regulatory regime. Brokers that have no business in the UK (which in particular means they don't advertise or solicit clients in the UK) still can accept UK...

What is it with TOS and the UK residents?

UK has a distinct regulatory regime. So, a broker pretty much has to open an office there and get licensed with the local regulator (FSA). Both parts are costly. A number of large broker like MB Trading accept accounts from anywhwere in Europe and almost anywhere in the world excluding the UK...

Senator Bernie Sanders Demands Action From Obama On Wall Street Oil 'Gambling'

This is not entirely true. Look at just a few news stories from summer 2009, when storing oil nearly became the next "big thing": JPMorgan Hires Supertanker for Storage Barclays books super tanker to store gas oil -trade Oil Traders Seek Another 10 Tankers, Frontline Says Oil Stored On...

Mobile Monitors and Trading From Laptops

This is indeed the case for many higher-end ATI cards. Normally such a laptop would have 2 digital monitor connections, say, HDMI and DysplayPort. If you are going to buy a laptop in a shop, ask the staff to connect the laptop on diplay to 2 mobitors and see if it works :)

Are these trading strategies supported by major trading systems?

These requirements are pretty basic. The last time I checked the only popular trading platform that didn't support these was TradeStation. P. S. People call software for automating trading strategies "trading platform". "Trading system" is usually synonymous to trading strategy.

Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) and Soros' Bretton Woods.

A basket of currencies as a common denominator has been used for some time in investment products. Think of US Dollar index as a popular example. Is SDR just another name for a basket of currencies?

is it legal to close a long position in another account?

For this hedge funds don't need 2 accounts, or selling to themsleves. They can just borrow a security for a specific term and sell it later at their convenience (or not sell if the fund manager changes his/her mind). It's in a retail account where in order to borrow stock one has to sell the...

is it legal to close a long position in another account?

Wash sale is about paying tax... not actual trading. So, as long as you file tax paperwork right, this is not a problem. On the other hand, wash trade is when a trader sells to him/herself in order to mislead the market by creating trade volume. First, this is not a serious risk for a...

Gordon Brown takes on World Economic Forum role

For a moment I was excited about this idea. On a second thought, IMF is a true "non-profit" organisation. Unlike states, IMF doesn't report spending versus receivables and only gives away the money it has... on the condition the borrowing countries follow strict colonial rules. As the head of...

Any laptops w/ battery that lasts an entire trading session?

It all depends on the laptop model and the battery (many laptops can use batteries of different capacity). I wouldn't concentrate on the brand.

How reliable is the backtesting result?

It's just very easy to "over-optimise" so that the resulting backtest is a result of pure datamining. The reason to run the system with the same parameters on different instruments is to see if the underlying idea has merit. The earthquake disaster produced powerful trends. It explains why...
