CME buying CBOT for $8 Billion

Definitely!!! The attitude at CME is "rob the customers blind" while the attitude at CBOT is "gouge the customers" :D :D :D

options on NQ so wide? (ask/bid)

Be very very careful selling options. Make sure you know what you're doing, how the options are exercised (european vs american exercise) and when to expect a potential early exercise. Another thing to consider is that even though a large contract may give you more leverage and lower...

options on NQ so wide? (ask/bid)

Yes. The reason is that nobody trades them, hence the huge bid/ask spread and zero volume. Stick with ES options or even ER2, those are much more liquid than NQ. Or just use QQQQ options instead.

    vix options/futures

Does anyone know when the rollover date is for VIX futures? Given the very low volume I can't figure it out from the data.....

    E-mini S&P MidCap 400 futures

I've been trading EMD since mid-2005 and I love it. It shows significantly less "spikeiness" than ER2 and much smoother trends. It does provide problems for large trade sizes, I often see 1-2 tick slippage, but even in my daytrading system this isn't a real problem. For my type of system ER2...

Gasoline going up....how to play it?

Sorry, meant to say unleaded gasoline, NYMEX contract HU. The problem is I'm pretty sure, but I'm not willing to bet the farm so options seem to be the way to go. Can anyone suggest a good website for modeling futures options -- maybe if I do some price modeling I might not lose money if I'm...

Gasoline going up....how to play it?

I'm convinced gasoline is bottoming and will be heading back up over the next 6-9 months (after the election). Can anyone suggest a good way to play it? I was thinking futures options but whenever I touch options of any kind I end up kissing my money goodbye....any other suggestions? Or is...

    vix options/futures

I noticed the current front month VIX futures (Oct 2006) dropped off a cliff over the past few days. VIX has declined, but not nearly as much as the futures. Anyone know why?

Stocks and Futures on Schedule C

Note this can trigger an IRS audit (so I've heard) so make sure you really qualify to do it before doing it. Consult a qualified accountant, there are several who specialize in traders (google them).

Any broker use C# as the programming interface?

It was my understanding each and every price comes through -- but multiple trades at the same price will not necessarily come through, meaning it's not a true tick feed.

Just tell them to buy low, sell high. It's easy

    IB Alternative Choices?

In the 10 months I've had Tradestation it's still ahead of IB in terms of outages. I keep both accounts, one is a backup for the other.

new IB F&F sub-account for foreign trader?

My step-brother is a US citizen but is working abroad in Europe for a European company. He would like to open an account (under my friends and family master account) but we're not sure how to fill in his address -- should we fill in his address in Europe, or his US address (with his mother --...

IB historical data on expired contracts -- it's here!

You could tell it was coming from TWS 8.62 which had charting for expired contracts, but now the 9.0 beta of the API has been released with historical data queries for them. IB thanks, this is just awesome. I'm sure there will be some issues (hey it is a beta) but no matter what...

    Tradestation, Brokerage, Automated Trading

What I've been told is the easiest way to do this is simply write the orders to a text file, then have another program which monitors the text file, reads orders from it and submits them to IB or whatever. Other programs exist that capture the emails TS can be configured to send when orders...

Hidden orders at IB -- how are they handled?

I screwed up last night and chose "default" as the trigger method on my buy stop order on the canadian 10 year bond (CGB) when I wanted to choose "double bid/ask" (that'll teach me not to enter orders while watching baseball playoffs!). But it got me thinking about how hidden orders are handled...

    Best mainstream broker for options?

Is this new math anything like the math I use on my brokerage statement: $10,000 initial balance - $10,000 trading losses -------------------------------- $ you are screwed -- go sleep on the couch

Beware - critical flaw in IB Ideal Pro

Something else to keep in mind -- in general (not always but in many many cases) the level 1 CSRs are not highly trained, and in many cases they are paid close to minimum wage and there is very high turnover (not just IB -- at all brokerages). I've dealt with some real ninnies over the years at...

Beware - critical flaw in IB Ideal Pro

Can't you close out the position using IDEAL instead of IDEALPRO? Not an ideal solution (no pun intended!) but I don't think there's a minimum on IDEAL.

    How does Trailing stop works?

He did answer you -- it depends on the type of order you use (for example trailing stop versus trailing stop limit), and your broker and how they execute that type of order. Look at the help on the IB home page for info on how they handle it. Some brokers only offer trailing stop market...
