I'm reading through a book on Elliot Wave and it doesn't really say how you are supposed to start counting waves. Looking at a daily and weekly chart, how do you begin?

It is an excellent strategy, but right now is the wrong time for it. It is a bull market strategy that buys stength, i.e breakouts from congestion. Right now, those technical conditions are attracting sellers, not buyers. Some of the Canslim picks will still work, but not the way they used to.

In the book Trader Vic, he mentions a study he did with Ann Rand where they charted a stict interpretation of Dow Theory all the way back to 1900, classifying all primary, intermediate, and minor trends. Does anyone know if this study is available?
