    What is a prop firm?

BS you can make a nice living with $150-300k BP. $300k you can trade up to 20k shares of BAC... if you can't make a nice living going in and out with 1000-10,000 shares of BAC/GE/F, or fewer shares of higher priced thinner stocks, you suck as a trader.

Market order matched to limit orders

Yes, market orders are always matched with limit orders. Incorrect on the second point, because there are such things as marketable limit orders; example, at 15.35 there are 500 shares on the bid, and at 15.34 there are 1000. If I send in a sell limit order for 1000 shares at 15.25, it will...

    Trader P/L 2011

Yeah I realized that afterwards, but it was after the ten minutes and I didn't really care. I would have appreciated a PM, given that I tried to hide it somewhat, but w/e. So where's your blotter?

MB Trading announces Pay for Limits in Forex

This sounds awesome. Intradaybill doesn't know what he's talking about. If your limit is going to get picked off or leaned on... you cancel it. Reality is no trader's order on the MB trading ECN will holdup the FX Market as a whole. For traders who constantly enter passive orders, this is...

    A really stupid question

Erm market's not reversing just because they "got you in." But ES does have a tendancy to break the old high/low by a few ticks then retrace.

Interesting article about trading parasites - aka HFTs

The exchanges don't ban heavy cancelling... they each set a ratio of fills: cancels which, as long as the HFT firm stays under, is okay. Technically you're not supposed to prop the market up with a fake bid and then cancel it, but from my observations this is not what HFT primarily does.

    Trading Costs

What's your per-share execution rate (assuming equities?) The HFT firms become registered as broker dealers, some self-clear, while others negotiate clearing arrangements at insanely low rates. .1% per trade means 1 penny/share on a $10 stock. That was the standard rate for a daytrader...

    neat hft story

As I interpret the article, it says the following: For simplicity's sake, we will assume there are only two exchanges with their unique orderbooks. One is the ARCA, the other is NSDQ. Let's just look at the offer side. 50.10 500 x ARCA 300 X BATS 50.11 500 x ARCA 100 X BATS 50.12 500 x...

Anyone know of tricks to beating other traders..

Are you sure the bid is "before" you? If the trigger for a program to put a higher bid in is your bid, your order should have an earlier timestamp, unless you're being illegally frontrun (you're not).

Concealed Carrying Bystander Nearly Killed Innocent Man During Tucson Shooting

What a load of crap. The CCW guy "could have" shot an innocent man, so therefore concealed carry is an ineffective deterrent from crime and we should stop allowing registered law-abiding citizens from carrying because that will somehow stop criminal psychos from going on shooting sprees...

    Deal or No Deal?

If you're not new then there are other shops where you can put money down. Same reasons as you I won't name names but its' all been posted on this board. Seems with the split you're trading putting $ up for a % of p/l. That's okay if that's what you want and if you can up the p/l % as you...

    Deal or No Deal?

I have no idea who this firm is, but if you're new to the business and can learn on their dime, WITH A DRAW, you'd be an idiot not take the offer. Long term, Mav is correct, 50/50 sucks - but, if it allows you to learn the business while getting paid regardless of your performance, it's great...

    ECN charges/rebate list

Any list claiming to be updated is probably not. Pretty much every month one of the exchanges changes pricing structure. www.nasdaqtrader.com for fees for BX, PSX, and of course NASDAQ www.nyse.com for NYSE and ARCA fees www.batstrading.com for BATS, BYX www.directedge.com for EDGX...

Do you think a stock broker that charges $1 commission is a good business idea?

Actually, a lot of clearing deals are per-symbol. If you limited the $1 commission to, say, the 100 most popular symbols, then it doesn't matter how many shares are executed across the firm... however, downsize is if some guy executes 100 shares in a symbol no one else trades, you still have to...
