How do institutions buy/sell large amounts of options?

I need to dabble with it in the FOPs and see what happens. It sounds bad.

How do institutions buy/sell large amounts of options?

It seems like you have to pick your poison here. If you want a 100 lot without getting pecked to death by 1 lot fills, then you do all or none and let the little stuff pass you by until volume comes to you. I haven't used it enough to know if it's viable or not in terms of getting a good fill...

How do institutions buy/sell large amounts of options?

Have you tried adding an "all or none" attribute to your IB orders? I don't think they work for FOPs, but it should work for equity options.

How do institutions buy/sell large amounts of options?

I get the same thing from IB. Send 100 and get 7 or 31 and then the market moves away and you have to chase it. This gets alleviated a little if I am less aggressive on the price, walk it down much faster and/or put it out there when the market is pretty calm. This is on ES FOP spreads.

A Small College’s Endowment Manager Beat Harvard With Index Funds

Your first statement is not true. "Passive investing is trouncing all active managers from hedge funds, mutual funds, to pension funds, and now college endowment funds." All? All of them?

    Women and life balance

She is working through a Vanquish at this point, with an eye on the DB11. I do love the lines and the way the rear wheel is so far back on the frame. We will likely attend F1 at COTA in Austin TX in the Fall and Red Bull now has Aston Martin as a sponsor so they always bring a bunch of demos...

    Women and life balance

The lambo's are a bit too obnoxious for me. McLaren has experienced some F1 hiccups as they work to migrate the KERS to their road cars...and they are sooooo technical. Lots of modes and settings and timing exercises to get things just right. For me, Ferrari is elegant - with curves and clean...

    Women and life balance

Ferrari will do that. From the 458 forward, they have shorter "seat rods" that cause the driver seat to be lower to the floor and allow taller folks some room.

    Women and life balance

I think it helps to keep things in perspective. Trading is a means to an end. The goal is (essentially) money. Picture yourself with more money than you can ever reasonably spend. What would your days be like? Do you picture yourself spending time with friends and family doing whatever you...

What do you do with your excess cash?

For you guys with Marcus accounts...how do you like it? I meant to do it when they first came out and got distracted or something and never did it.

    Butterfly thread

    1) I have an initial structure that I place at a specific distance from expiration. No legging...everything all at once. 2) Some of it is based on the volatility at the time, but it's within a fairly tight range that I've adjusted over the years. 3) It's a bit of both...I use multiple spreads...

What do you do with your excess cash?

Not sure how much you have, but for me...standing timber, PIPE deals with solid interest rates and favorable convertible terms, some high grade corporates.

    Butterfly thread

Here was my path; this is in the context of spreads on very liquid products - for me, broad based indexes. Put something on that has a decent risk/reward. Learn everything about it...the behavior in flat/up/down markets, the path of decay etc... Then I just think about it. I think about it...

    Butterfly thread

For me personally, butterflies have kinda been the holy grail. Having said that, I have never simply purchased a midpoint fly and waited for a target. I started there, like everyone else - then I went through the same path as others that have gotten deep into the strategy. As it moves you...

    Who should I ignore?

The tone has changed significantly here over the years. Many of the great posters and guys who could be counted on to enhance a discussion have been run off by the diarrhea and influx of arrogant pikers pretending to hold court and possess the keys to the kingdom. It's unfortunate but I guess...

Interesting Explanation of Taxes and Wealth Distribution

That's one of the most cohesive descriptions of the most specious theories ever posited. Jeff Bezos and my (minivan driving stay-at-home mom) neighbor down the street benefit equally from the roads we drive on, the police protection we receive and the infrastructure available to the public. In...

Test your knowledge of new IB margins!

My securities balance is 25% of the account and stays the same through the day, the commodities side is the other 75% and fluctuates as the market moves. I'm only running ES futures options spreads and everything is section 1256. If it's the market value of the option, it seems like these guys...

Old Timer's Advice On Trading This Market

I don't use TA, but the last month has been a gift that just keeps on giving. Volatility is not for everyone, but for those that benefit from it - it's here. With at least a few more years of Trump and lots more "stuff" to happen domestically and internationally, I have to believe there will...

Test your knowledge of new IB margins!

I have plenty of spreads on right now, but my "Securities Gross Position Value" is only 40% of my net liquidation value, and my leverage reads "0.00". The total notional value of even a few of my positions (offsets notwithstanding) is far higher than this figure. I must be doing something right...
