    Is Amazon's business model profitable?

If the "core business" is selling books, then I'd say yes, its a profitable business. If we are talking about all of the other crap they sell too, I'm not as confident. I suspect the E-bay model is better for most of the other stuff.

Anyone here a Lender at Prosper.com??

I put a very small amount into prosper at the beginning of the year as an experiment, and have been re-investing the payments as I've gone along, but I have not put any additional funds in. I'm not going to be negative this year , but I probably won't have earned more than 5%, which sucks...

yet another young trader with outrageous claims

I don't get your account suspended for being a pattern day-trader. You only lose the ability to use margin for awhile....if the guy is only going long options, he doesn't need margin anyway.

    My system

First of all, I'm not expert on trading systems, like some of the other contributors to this thread, but here is what I see: The first red-flag that suggests curve-fitting is the equity curve, I see that it is dominated (especially early on) by a few large gains, like for example what the...

    My system

That system looks a lot like curve-fitting. Adding a trend-filter would probably just make the problem worse.

Why are people on ET so against a decent minimum wage

Setting the minimum wage to 10 bucks an hour means that everyone who's labor is worth less than 10 bucks an hour has to become unemployed. I'm opposed to minimum wage because it hurts the poorest and least skilled workers. Here's an example: I used to be acquainted with a guy who owns...

Random Walk Theory Proved, once and for all.

If your random charts look so much like charts in the real market....how come I don't see any big jumps like in this real market chart has: http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=amkr&sid=0&o_symb=amkr&freq=1&time=8&x=0&y=0 In your random charts there don't seem to...

Where can the documentation for accessing the market tracker web services api be found? I don't see anything at yahoo for accessing this service from code. All I see is using there provided client software.

    SQL db design recommendation

I originally went with storing data in a MySQL database myself. I basically stored all the ticks in one table, with the records indexed to a security table. (I'm simplifying things a bit.) It eventually became extremely slow to do my bulk updates, probably because of all of the work the...

    TSCM will change the

Part of the catalyst for me getting into a small position in TSCM for my long-term portfolio, was their ownership of half (now 100%) of stockpickr.com. It's a pretty innovative product. Does anyone know how much they paid for it?

    Generationally challenged, looking to program

That would probably be your fastest path to actually being able to do something useful. The second fastest would probably be the VBA/Excel route. Although, I've never used either of those 2, I'd bet it's not even a close second.

    Data mining

The book"Evidence Based Technical Analysis" deals with this topic quite a bit....it's been awhile since I read it, but I think most of the book was essentially about how to figure out how to measure the probability that a pattern discovered through data-mining has a genuine edge. The author of...

    Thought on pairs trading

It's common to find pairs that are correlated for no reason. If you search enough pairs your guaranteed to find some pairs that were correlated in the past simply by coincidence.
