Trading e-minis with $1k starting capital

Nice. :) Or he could take up poker. With the same size bankroll in the same time period, I made more than twice as much, while the site I played on got only 15% of what his broker walked off with. And I played less than an hour a day. I can only hope that if and when I start an e-mini...

taking 4 million to 1 million by year end

This is like saying the best way to go from $5K to $25K in one year is to get a job. It may be true but it's not in the spirit of things.

taking 4 million to 1 million by year end

Good luck man, I'm rooting against you. I have a secret system that would allow you to achieve your goal with almost no effort. But it's so valuable I'm going to have to keep it to myself.

Trading e-minis with $1k starting capital

It sounds like psychology will be your downfall, not your account balance.

Trading e-minis with $1k starting capital

Not good. This should be a 5 every time. At least that is what you should be striving for.

Trading e-minis with $1k starting capital

There's a difference between a small performance bond and having that be your entire capital. Still, the OP is an interesting experiment. It reminds me of some online poker players who would deliberately start with something small like $50 and try to reach a certain level as fast as possible.

    I Quit

If you swing for the stars all the time you'll strike out a lot. There is nothing wrong with making consistent singles. Nitro's post and poker analogy is very relevant. I did something similar, I deposited $300 on a poker site, doubled it, withdrew my $300, and turned the rest into over...

    Anyone trade using a cellphone?

I use IB and I was looking for a phone that I could make emergency trades on. I went to a Verizon store and was able to try out a few phones and log in to IB's mobile trader. I settled on the LG enV. It's definitely not streaming, and its not going to be convenient to use if you've got lots...

    I Quit

There appears to be some confusion in this thread. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you did not turn 5K in to 1.4M, you turned it into a lot more because you spent trading profits over that time. And you did not lose the whole 1.34M trading in the last 6 years, because you spent a lot of it...

    500$ - How to start??

If you live near a good library system, buying books may be unnecessary. I request books online from any library in my county, and they deliver them to my local library for free. For very technical books that I might want to have around for reference, I use half.com.

Sincere Question: How is the market compared to 2003?

Hitman, I don't know if you will ever read this, but... I was just cleaning out my bookmarks, and found your old thread on Money Central in there. A quick search led me here. It's funny because a post in that thread led me to briefly become a professional online poker player, with an...

    Poker and the Beginning Trader

Obviously I have been following things intently, and I was very surprised that several major sites are caving in so easily, saying they will stop accepting US customers once the bill is signed.

Good poker player = good trader?

Also, there are many players trying to make extra money at low limit online tables. In live play, this is just about impossible. Consider 3/6 limit holdem. An expert player could make maybe 6-12 per hour in a live game. He'd almost be better off working in a fast food joint. Anyone trying...

Good poker player = good trader?

Online sites can make more money in the long run by being legit. If any site was actually shown to be rigged, it would be the death of that site. These sites have many employees, and it wouldn't be too hard for a disgruntled programmer to spill the beans, or to accidentally leak the...

    Poker and the Beginning Trader

Read No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice by David Sklansky and Ed Miller right away. I'm a limit player but I'm always reading books on other forms, and I'm almost done with this one. It's a great book.

Good poker player = good trader?

Obviously if you only study poker or only study trading, you aren't going to automatically be good at the other. I would say that the psychological make-up needed to be good at either is similar, that's about it. I've been playing poker online for a living for about 18 months, and played...

    Commissions or Fees for exercise?

Are there typically any commissions or fees associated with exercise or assignment? Does the broker matter (I use IB and couldn't find anything in their help files either way).

    Poker and the Beginning Trader

I am still going. Since I quit my job in Feb 2005, online poker has been my main source of income. I sometimes think about getting back into trading, but I don't want to divert any poker bankroll to it yet. It's much better for me to just keep trying to move up in limits. Plus what amounts...
