Tax Help - Futures / Options

I think options on exchange-traded futures are also 60/40. I am not sure though. Check the Green's trader tax presentation for additional info: http://mediasrv1.cbot.com/02062007_green

    Sole Proprietorship in NYC

I don't have a good experience with the County Clerks in NYC office either. They are slow and don't know much. So, I think you need to have a counter argument before you go there again. In regard to registration (series 7), it depends whether you trade equity or futures. I am not sure about the...

    Best City For Traders

I lived in Ann Arbor(MI), Arlington(VA), Georgetown(DC), Chicago and ended up in NYC. Definitely agree with all these suggestions. NYC is more expensive but not having a car and walking everywhere is a bless. Chicago is also very nice if you don't mind the cold. DC area's summer is hot and...

trading system that lets place stop orders on chart

IB TWS has this capability. You can also modify your stop and limit orders real time and on the chart without typing anything. Look at their webinars (TWS Charts, I think!) http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/general/education/priorWebinars.php?ib_entity=llc

Good open source C++ real time trading system...

I just check the current API UG: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/php/apiUsersGuide/apiguide.htm You should be able to do what you want by extending the C++ API's reqMktDepth, reqMktData, etc. You have some programming to do but I think it's doable.

how "high frequency" can IB's TWS API go?

You should be able to subscribe to real time tick data for all 500 (given the sufficient system and stream processing resources at your end). But last time I check (<1yr ago), you could only receive front bid/ask sizes and levels, but I don't remember seeing book depth at the tick level. I'd...

how "high frequency" can IB's TWS API go?

Not sure about CTCI interface but I know IB API currently supports live bar subscription but that's only available in 5sec time frames. You may be able to subscribe for 1sec tick data but you need to process/parse the incoming stream at your end. BTW, forget about using IB historical data back...

ib backfill of futures and QuoteTracker not working right

Experiencing the same problem. ECBOT backfill (YM/ZB) better. Globex backfill (NQ/ES) is a hit or miss even after market closes. The time interval of 10sec in the historical data queries adds to the frustration.

    # of contracts in regards to capital/profit target?

I agree. Here are several ways you can come up with a realistic number of contracts per capital: 1) it is better not to bet more than 2% of your capital on any trade. For a stop loss of 2 ES-point you need (2*$50)/0.02=5k per contract. 2) another way is by using a daily risk limit of e.g...

    Backfill problems with IB

I only use IB and have the same problem. Intraday backfill calls fail frequently...frustrating! GLOBEX seems to be worse than ECBOT specially when trading activities are high.

A very useful utility for multiple desktops

I recently found a fantastic and free utility which I'd like to share with you guys. This utility creates multiple virtual desktops for you (regardless of how many LCD display you may have). So, you can significantly increase your desktop real estate without buying more LCD panels. Personally...

IB - TWS with latest Java

RC, I am not sure about all the various flags in kiwi_trader's command but I was able to launch TWS using it. However, I've to wait until Monday to see its proper working and performance. This is what I did to make is work. Assuming your TWS directory is C:\jts: 1) make sure java JDK is...

    Education/Career advice please

Totally agree with Rosy's points on being smart and from a top school. Although small schools produce many great talents, the hiring process on the Street is biased toward top schools. My advice, is to get a finance degree from a top school with good career center and possibly an internship...

anyone gone from trading at home to career

As career trader, the salary you get is just enough to pay your bills. For example ~100K in NYC. If you and/or the desk you work with make(s) money, you get a bonus somewhere between 8-12% of the profit you generated. Bonuses are paid annually around Jan/Feb. So, you need to wait to see your...
