    Hedging against random flash crashes

I'm not talking about news events as such, the price move is never as dramatic as a flash crash of 10% +. That's 30% on a margined account. I can't see anyone waiting that out easily... Less margin is an option or always trade 2 stocks (1 long 1 short).

    Hedging against random flash crashes

So, it's not really worth it then. I should add most of my trades are intraday with stops no more than $0.5 away usually less. I'm assuming they would be filled first even in the event of a crash way before it got to 5-10% down. In the 2010, 2015 crash it was over 30mins or so? And to add that...

    Hedging against random flash crashes

The stop may not be executed at the exact price but in that sort of scenario anything close shortly after might be ok. I trade with 1:3 margin so in the recent flash crashes the market dropped 5-10%? Id be looking at an account drop of 15-30 worst case? Unless of course something worse happens...

    Hedging against random flash crashes

More referring to day trading though. If I had to put options on every time it would add a lot to the process and commissions. I guess a day trade with a fairly tight stop would still be filled quick enough to prevent a drastic loss? Now that spoofing is banned you'd think it's less likely but...

    Hedging against random flash crashes

Is there anyone here that had trades on during the flash crashes of 2010, 2015, forex, etc. I'm wondering if anyone or even if professional traders use options to hedge against things like this? Ie if you were long your stop would have been filled at a very low price wiping out accounts using...

    Momentum Strategy

There are always the same number of buyers and sellers! It's a market/auction. It can be that the market maker is acting as seller in an unbalanced market but they are still a seller, it's 1:1. What drives the market up is buyers buying at higher prices and sellers selling at higher prices...

I trade equities better than futures, WHY?

Same. I always thought futures traded a bit randomly at support/resistance points because of the weighting towards a range of stocks. I find stocks a bit more respective of their own S/R areas

What size do prop traders and investment banks trade?

What is the 10kfootprint? Some sort of exchange limit? You could just have an algo trade 10 x 1,000

What size do prop traders and investment banks trade?

What size do prop traders and investment banks trading desks trade? Just interested because there must be a maximum amount before you start to move the market with a giant order sitting on the order flow. I know they use algos to split these up but in theory in one trade on a large cap, what's...
