Have I passed the Emotional stage ?

Well, if I run a $100,000 AUM with about 30 equities and 15 derivatives, and about $50,000 is OPM, I doubt I can check it on a sat/sun basic, can you ? I do agree its the % since this wld fall under MPT and portfolio mgmt.

Have I passed the Emotional stage ?

I didn't Long the Equity. I didn't want to, instead I sold naked puts and I didn't expect the stock to halt trading all of a sudden. Its probably not part of the expected behavior else I would have sold it or remain my shorts opened.

    Calculating Returns

Say 100k Profits 20k = 20% increase. I now assume your AUM is 120k. and for this year you've locked in 20%. Now you restart to 100k AUM, fine. Again month $5-7 30k = locked in 30k = 30%. As of month #7 you have %50 profits of 100k cap AUM becos you hv 50k somewhere else and only 100k AUM...

    Distinguishing Feeling From Emotion

If you are on good strategy eg. Long/Short or trade derivatives to pump up Alpha, you basically only have 1 risk and thats market risk. With gut feel, (something computer trading cannot do) is to analyse the current market situation based on humans, definitely gut feel is always better, and...

Recently gone automated, what to do?

Hi TS, I do have the same "problem" When you are fully invested, things and markets r going well (even if it comes down -2% u are still OK). They say the portfolio/fund managers that make 1-5m a year, only go into their office to check positions once a month. Soon you'll reach that point...

    Convinced on strategy but...

Well i hv the same goal, I have close to $35,000 now, and I wish to hit $50,000 by end of year. Problem is even if I hit $100,000, I can at most make $10000-$15000 a year, or 10-15% assumption I have been successful on an average year. Problem is can u live with 10-15k a year, or est. 1-1.5k...

Engineer looking to make a career change into trading

hi hajimow, I believe you are very successful, n I couldn't agree no more. The trading part sounds exciting, but when it comes to tabulating the PnL, I think it turns off alot of so-to-be trader. And I hv tried many ways to convince friends who wants to be a trader, but they failed and...

Engineer looking to make a career change into trading

Do you know why the average Joe failed ? What if out of the 100 trades, 99 trades falls pass their 3 % ? and it falls and falls, and when every trade falls in tandem, you risk hitting your max drawdown. If this is the real holy grail, brokers software could have implemented this. Why then...

    Curious about traders "edge."

Hi, I have too have an edge in trading, The edge is as such, a simple term called "arbitrage", earning risk free through spreads. I seriously think alot of "traders" (the term that makes them feel good), who keep chatting about operational rules, can never have an edge. Those who have...

    Momentum investing vs noobs

    - The people who are actually making money have no time for this. - Does the no of posts determine how successful you are trading? - Do you have 1m in cpaital ? - You sound like a kid. Who cares what you tell your wife. - I thought I wld be able to share ideas with fund managers...

Its Human Intelligent vs Artificial now?

Well starcraft is yes real time, but not multiplayers. its always 1v1/2v2. There are cases like WoW, where all 70 players get free money.

Its Human Intelligent vs Artificial now?

Nope. In it MMORPG, active community type of gaming, the producers have to keep producing harder enemies, and you therefore have to think and think and rethink strategies to beat them. This is so similar to the markets, always random. Next you have players with you, competing for the same...

    Momentum investing vs noobs

Sorry to announce this news. Not sure how many sell-side services, mutual funds, and training companies will hate me. Btw I see myself somewhat successful in trading. I went for an interview, sell-side equity analyst. I wasn't able to quite agree with the interviewer, with the part on due...

Its Human Intelligent vs Artificial now?

Hi, I have been trading for about close to 2 years now. I hv lost like 10-15% of my AUM last yr, retreated and rethink about strategies, Real strategies. Not your typical technical indicators buy/sell signals, but whatever similar to Hedge Funds less the exotic swaps available on OTC...

Is there any way to reverse engineer options data to find good stocks?

Heh I drove an S Class. Thats not the point. I too read close to 50-100 books, but the actual learning is when I really put money down, look at the - and + on my PnL, and lose some money in order to learn. I have seen people who traded the markets for 20 years. They still lose. In this...

Is there any way to reverse engineer options data to find good stocks?

So you are still a noobish on Options derivatives afterall. I have been in school for the past 15 years, went through 3 different companies and I drove a Mercedes before. Get my point ?

Is there any way to reverse engineer options data to find good stocks?

If you could tell, from the options market, that a stock is going to pop, then 2 things will happen. 1) The market makers (the ones that does the bid/ask spread) would have their thousands of computers send out orders at 100 per millisecond, way before you had even notice it. about the...

Is there any way to reverse engineer options data to find good stocks?

You sounded noobish. Similar priced stocks have different P/E, Beta, volume, and etc... Options derive their value from stocks, not the other way round.

how are those super cheap options profitable?

That's the job of the market makers and clearinghouse to have net neutral positions at the end of the day. It shouldn't be your concern.
