Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

Wasn't QE 2 continued by Bernanke to keep the yield curve steep, otherwise the banking system in the US would really be bust? I don't think QE2 has anything to do with encouraging inflation/deflation by themselves... But as a side effect, keeping the yield curve as steep as it is would likely...

    neat hft story

Scary though- the new strategy of syncing all their trades in different markets is good, but the consequences of the arms race in HFT leads to situations where trading can only be done during "perfect markets". Any other time the illiquidity will lead to more illiquidity and large traders will...

Higher commodity prices "may" spur inflation

Bernanke isn't trying just to kill the dollar. It's a race to the bottom to kill all the other currencies, and be the last man standing. As for inflation, read this guys view, It's very non consensus. http://www.oftwominds.com/blogdec10/cash-is-king12-10.html

"Mark (Zuckerburg) stole the idea (Facebook)", Goldman panic?

Mark Zuckerburg stole all my old friends. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have realized my friends and their girlfriends are just a bunch of obnoxious losers posting Facebook messages constantly. Because of his delete friend feature, I now have none. Oddly enough, I kind of owe him...

How to design Valuation and Growth strategy in FX?

Howard Simons has good articles on the carry trade, but you won't get strategies from them.... I wouldn't trust anything I read from a bank. They'll spend their time telling you how to augment and hide your business profits by hiding your financial transactions inside big FX swaps....

Are US markets like oil, index, and commodity markets rigged

I think the only way would be to control or massage the order flows.... ala HFT.

I was there for a week once. $%^ing boring. Even with the drinking and smoking, something was missing. The place is flat too. I hate living in flat places.

    Smart Money Sells Straddles!

Look at the O/I in the SPY and QQQQ. If the options expired in the money, the net payoff for the O/I is still closer to a billion than to 10s of billions...

Why do people believe day trading will get them rich quick?

People see people lose money fast while trading and assume the opposite is possible in the same timeframe.

    Gurdjieff was right!

I agree. Unfortunately 99.9% of all banks, trading firms and individual investors live off the nipple of what linear returns provide.

    Employment while trading

If you are re-entering the workforce after a stint of self-employment as a trader, get your resume professionally done. Likely it wouldn't make it past HR the way you seem to be suggesting it is currently. People these days are looking for reasons not to hire people, rather than the other way...

Gasparino: Jack Welch Warned Me About Doing Market Moving Stories

I think the book "Confessions of an economic hitman" had a mention of Welch saying he got the director of a major gov't in an emerging Market economy fired because he choose a product not supplied by GE. The author contends thats its an Ole boys club and GE is up near the top of that food chain.

    safe jobs...

I think there are a lot of people who come into the idea of trading or pay lip service to self-employment and think its like akin to a government job - a self annointment, an effortless ritual that they create for themselves everyday. In an ideal world, it would be easier than showing up for a...

Any drug to help make u a better trader?

I used to take MaHuang from GNC in a product called herbalift 10 years ago... Great for a 2-3 hour mountain bike race but I'd be wired for hours after. You'd need something to relax you after taking it. But the performance benefit for endurance athletes and for pure speed and concentration was...

If currency volatility hurts economies, then why not

You'd be amazed what people do to scam the central banks of shitty countries. This is done by insiders in the country and outsiders. Just read "hot Money" by R.T Naylor. He writes about a whole bunch of them.

100 US cities threatened by $2 Trillion debt crisis

I was more interested in the girl on girl action going on at CNBC.... especially with the talk about debt servicing. This muni-moaning is just starting. Joe Mysak is just frustrated that he didn't get the obligatory reach-around that is so common amongst mutual Wall Streeters.

Single trader holds 90% of LME copper, WSJ says

My guess is the party is Trafigura. They are hiring lots of new metals traders BTW. Great if you don't mind a company that dumps toxic waste along the African coastline.
