    hmm.no edges in the markets

Agreed. I could still defeat computers at expert chess up to mid-1990's because I could sense the algorythm and consistency behind the decisions made. I would steer the game to a type that the rules didn't apply if I could. I did that with human opponents as well. That is where trading is...

This turns out to be an important question to ask sometimes IMO.

    A lethal illness

I sure hope this is a theoretical question and not the case for you personally. I believe that the decision is unique for every person and that most do in fact choose their demise (although most are not aware of their own choice). Traders are risk takers and so you might skew the answer...

Did you understand what dandxg said here? (an important comment) If ever in history a favorite (that is should have won based on skill measurements) seed actually lost to an inferior player, then in that particular case, wimbledon WAS won by chance wasn't it? One negative proves the supposition...

Interesting comment. When I was a competitive swimmer, I realized that some swimmers get better with stress and some get worse. I think it has a lot to do with ego. I did some of my best times ever when I was physically tired (distance not sprint) because I stopped thinking about me and...

SEC Charges Steven A. Cohen For Failing to Supervise

Holy cow, nearly every banking, brokerage, and prop shop felt a chill run down their spines!

Sadly morons outnumber out number us by a huge amount. However, I was a moron in the past (and by some definitions may still be LOL) and since they have sent me lots of cash and life experiences, I speak highly of them now! Traders need morons to earn easy money.

    Upgrade path

In 2004 or so, while working for a large company in the IT department, I started telling people that Microsoft was already on the decline and some company ( possibly Google) would displace it. Almost a decade later, they appear to be in full retreat. It was not clear to me exactly which company...

That is certainly one way to look at it, but I would say further that there is no "right moment". The market is a balance of opinions of buyers and sellers. If there was a method that worked 100% of the time, then who would take the opposite side of the trade? When I thought more about it, I...

Bang on. Those who made the most in the (HFT) gold rush were selling picks and shovels and spreading rumors.

Well said. I have often said that most people have no idea what they really are trading. Luck, skill or something else, who cares as long you made money. It's an angels on the head of a pin kind of argument. The hardest thing for me was to trust my own instincts. I don't always know why I...

I agree with Maverick, the mathematics of independent multi-system trading can give completely non-intuitive results. That is two bad systems can give a good result for example depending on the overlap of the winning trades and when they come. It's mathematically complex.

No matter how many test samples you do, no matter how sure you are of your methods, no matter what, every single trade one makes is partly luck and partly skill. In the long run, the luck will cancel and the skill remains. So one answer is that whatever confidence level you need, run an Z test...

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

How the caged bird fights back: http://www.activistpost.com/2013/07/harnessing-quantum-entanglement-is.html I can't verify the accuracy of this article (on the surface it seems a bit dubious to me), but I have wondered before whether Quantum Mechanics entanglement could be used as the...

Oh. For the record, I agree with nitro's assertion as well your comments up to the nirvana pointing to absolute comment. Mediation has multiple meanings. The mediation meaning I use is the 'technique outcome' one, not the 'thinking about' one. I also looked up Nirvana's definition in...

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

I enjoy your posts since I suspect we share similar views. How would someone be rich if there were not lots of poor to help him feel better about him/herself. Studies show that relative wealth is more important that absolute wealth - that is, one can have lots of material things but be...

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

With respect, I suspect the Buddha would laugh at this comment. So I can learn more myself, could you lead me to passages where he talks about absolute scales of suffering and needing to think a lot to become enlightened? My own view is that enlightenment is the end of suffering. Thanks.

Investment Banks Eye 'Hedge Funds for the Masses’

LOL. My favorite research from obvious ponzi scams done by people is I asked them really tough questions! Like are you scam? I usually ask. It's amazing how many people think that grilling the salesman amounts to research. If they will mislead you on the investment, do you think they...
