    IB Intermittent Disconnects/Reconnects

If you are using cable modem, you will usually get brief interruptions. They come intermittently, often in bursts. I gave up on cable for trading.

Interactive Brokers and Internet Service Providers

I would much prefer 3mb DSL over 5mb cable any day. I don't think overall speed is as important as reliability. Also, don't forget that download is only half of the connection. A lot of times vendors advertise fast download that uses some kind of compression that won't help you for trading.

Interactive Brokers and Internet Service Providers

I am not familiar with the packet forgery problem, but I have used Comcast with IB in two different cities, and I found it unsatisfactory both times. Coaxial cable is highly susceptible to interference, and I think that causes most of the brief interruptions. You probably would not notice the...

    Opening Orders - 2008

Hi Don, Thanks for that quick response. It looks to me like Yahoo has composite opening prices. If you look at FRE for 4/9/08 ( http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=FRE ), you see it opened at 25.60, yet I was filled at 25.99. I realize that I am departing from the classical application of...

    IB API disables TWS UI?

I just checked system status, and there is still no mention of the problem. I contacted IB via chat, and they told me they are hoping the nightly reset will fix the problem.

    IB API disables TWS UI?

I'm running 882.2 standalone, API 9.40, and JRE 1.5.0_13 and I am seeing the lockup. I also tried the paper trader, and it locks up too. It appears to be a software problem on IB's side, not a software problem on our side, not a server problem.

How much will real estate go down?

Refinancing can be risky. Purchase-money mortgages are non-recourse loans in most states. You lose that small measure of protection when you refinance or take out a second.

How much will real estate go down?

I am hearing that housing prices in some European markets are dropping too. Does anybody have good informations on that?

How much will real estate go down?

I am interested in this too, because I would like to buy a house, and I want to buy as close to the bottom as possible. I think this article answers the question as well as any I have seen: http://www.2000wave.com/printarticle.asp?id=mwo032808 It appears that there is quite a bit of...

Does anybody trade Amex stocks with this strategy? Would the takeover of the Amex by NYSE change anything?

Broker freezes my acct upon wiring out funds to <$25k!!

SEC has no jurisdiction over futures or forex. That could change with Paulson's latest proposal that includes merging the SEC and the CFTC. That scares me. A few years ago the SEC chairman at the time commented that he saw no reason futures should be allowed more leverage than securities.

Broker freezes my acct upon wiring out funds to <$25k!!

My understanding of IB's policy is that the account is frozen for 90 days or until the account balance is brought higher than $25k, whichever comes first. That doesn't sound too unreasonable to me. It just means that you cannot daytrade with less than $25k.

    Opening Orders - 2008

Thanks for the feedback. I have been trading a long time, and it's now my only source of income, though I am new to this strategy. Maybe I'm just a Neanderthal or something, but I have never been able to develop a feel for much of anything, except that certain stocks seem to be toxic for some...

    Opening Orders - 2008

This is the part of the strategy I haven't quite gotten my brain around. How do you avoid/manage the wild 'wyed'? The only comment I have seen (from Don I think) was that we "daytrade" out of the position, whatever that means. It seems to me that the best trades should never go against...

Intraday trading of equities on short time-frames

    Def, is this correct?

That is my understanding too. IB uses a sampled data stream that does not include every tick. This minimizes the delay between the tick and the arrival of data in your computer. There are data streams that do include every tick, but they have delays that can be substantial at times. It...

    Opening Orders - 2008

Thanks lescor and shreddog for sharing. This has been very informative. While the total gain is eyepopping, it is useful to note that the gain per share was .0888 for lescor and .1429 for shreddog -- not bad, especially when doing 'size'. Bootcampers should watch gain/share, and worry about...

    Money in Foreclosures?

That's what I am considering now. I like the feel of the old downtown, and I am also considering the Fisher's Landing area for a more suburban feel. But I will probably continue renting a little longer for a couple reasons.

    Money in Foreclosures?

Yeah, language... I have a German friend who just moved back there and who claims language is no problem. I sounds like a barrier to me. It rains a lot in the Pacific Northwest. It's been snowing for several days now, and according to my calendar, it's supposed to be Spring. Portland...
