Expected time til execution on market order short sent for review

They review orders manually whenever they are somewhat large compared to either the available funds in the account or the liquidity of the stock. For shorting, there may be additional delays to locate shares to borrow. It takes about 1-2 minutes to get approved, sucks.

    Updating IB TWS Safely?

Do a new install, you can have multiple versions of TWS. Make sure you save your settings locally just in case version incompatibilities mess them up in the upgrade and you decide you want to revert. It's a good idea to back up your settings regularly anyway if you have a lot of stuff in them...

On average how much time should be spent researching an individual stock?

Depends on how much you're going to invest. Big positions should probably get more research. Small positions might get a little or even none.

How to Adjust Historical Prints for Splits & Dividends?

Unlike their data. They often miss dividends. I would absolutely not rely on this without hand checking it per ticker.

Dangers of ignorance: 42B RUR ( $0.5B) traded by a novice trader in a day for a loss of $200K.

Sad story. That's why I always try out a new trade with, say, 20M Rubles instead of going all in with 20B Rubles the first time ;)

That hasn't stopped some IL or LO politicians from running (or winning)!

Ex-drug executive Shkreli has $40 million trading loss: U.S

No, he was an insider and had to hold 6 months under the swing trading rules or he'd lose his profits. I guess that doesn't apply now that KBIO is delisted, but now he doesn't have many profits either. Maybe just $1M, still not bad.

    Day-trading margin question

Yes, you only need to meet the maintenance requirement. Because they set the initial maintenance requirement to be higher than maintenance, there's already a buffer for the market move against you before there's a potential liquidation.

    Day-trading margin question

See here, especially towards the end of the thread: http://www.elitetrader.com/et/index.php?threads/interactive-brokers-unannounced-higher-margin-requirements-today-10-16-15.295143/ IB recently set initial margin requirements at 1.1x maintenance for PM so that's a 10% buffer, or if you prefer...

    Day-trading margin question

They will liquidate intraday, but there are lots of buffers you have to blow through before that happens with a PM account. Roughly speaking they make you hold 10% extra margin over your requirement maintenance, so if you're "maxed out" you can lose 10% of your equity and you just can't do more...

How many of you guys do this as a career?

Pick a couple things that seem promising and try to understand all the details around those. Specializing is better than diversifying until you get strategies that clearly work.

Does IB TWS include accrued interest in the net liquidating equity figure?

I suppose you could be out that accrued interest if the bond switches from trading the normal way to trading flat while you were holding it. Seems like a pretty conservative way to mark them, at least for investment grade issues.

Does IB TWS include accrued interest in the net liquidating equity figure?

The accrued interest section definitely includes accrued margin and short interest expense, but I don't know about whether it includes accrued bonds interest or not. Please let us know if / when you figure it out. Maybe if you watch all the TWS numbers just before and just after you sell a...

Shkreli Arrested on Securities Fraud Charges

They will be able to trade as soon as tomorrow as KBIOQ over the counter, as a Nasdaq suspended them. The appeal will still happen in another month, but I think we all know how that's going to go. They brought in some new execs who are bankruptcy experts and it looks like they'll need it since...
