for 10001 time-it's all depends on many factors. complexity, time frame, security('s) etc..
how can one suggest something if the question is that lame? hey! i want to backtest some s**t..what's the cheapest option? f** yahoo finance and excel. how about that? :)
I remember year ago or so, when US market drops 5-8% China start whining something about FED policy(are rates going to stay low and will you support stock market? ) yeah..that straight. So-feds making supportive comments after only couple down days didn't really surprise me.

3 days down-enough! Fed is calling PPT :D
no need to study, cause i still remember how it was with IWM back in a day(cause i've used it often as a hedge)-avg. premarket volume on IWM use to be at 2-4M shares traded before market open. on day with major economic news out at 8:30- up to 10 M been traded before market open. yes, as much as...
That depends on what you trying to trade\backtest and complexity of it. for LIQUID US stocks you don't really need anything. that 'free' bundle should be enough. keep in mind that it's only free,if you generage 30$ in commissions per month.

is he wrong? i think this statement above is spot on.
why do we need 60-70 ECN's + basically unregulated dark pools? what kind of infrastructure is that, where SEC themselves admit that they can't track or even properly oversee all this mess.
i'm just curious-why now? all of sudden everyone is all over the place about this HFT. media,AG,SEC. why now, after this Lewis guy article?
where they have been 5 years ago? where they have been after flash crash? so-why now?
