:) You are assuming that those in the 34 yr group have "made it". :)

    The Ultimate Scalping Setup (HW&SW)

I didn't read the whole thread, so bear with me. I also scalp the FDAX with some heavy volume. A couple of things don't make sense to me: 1. You are in Europe yet you use a US based clearer? You are adding a lot to you latency this way unless they have a clearing arrangement in Europe with a...

    Realistic question when starting out...

I didn't read the entire thread, but my 2 cents are: Assuming that you are generally healthy and if you are quite young (less than 40 yrs old), then you don't need full insurance coverage. It makes more sense to buy disaster insurance with a high deductible and purchase an accident rider for...

    Compensation for a Trainer

10% to 15% of net proceeds. This leaves the trader with enough to keep trading and will give the backer something for his risk. You only make money if they do. The cut should come from the trader's side. He stands to benefit the most in this deal if he is fully backed. Good luck.

    Tape Reading Techniques??

This statement is very true and is the reason why it takes so much to become a tape reader and be able to bet money on it. The tape eventually gives you a "feel" for what will likely happen before it happens. Some ET'ers think this is an illusion, but you can go wrong studying what is actually...

    New Computer- please HELP

You don't provide any info on how many monitors, what will run on it, etc. Generally, a Dell Dimension 4700 with 2 monitors will do the job. The monitors can be run one off the onboard port and a second by adding just a standard PCI card for about $10. Get at least 512MB of RAM and at least...

    Tape Reading Techniques??

Hi there, Can you provide some background on your experience, style, whether retail/prop and account size? You can PM the account size part. Tape reading requires an awful lot of time in front of the computer fully focused and an excellent data feed among other things. Let me know what...

    Position Sizing

Point 1 and 4 above are the main factors for me although the others are relevant accept the equity based one. I don't trade bigger just because I'm up for the month. Trading bigger, for me, has to be dependent on volatility, level of confidence/comfort and winning streak.

    Question on LCD monitors

Check the resolution on these before you buy. Also, LCD TV's typically have a 1 yr warranty while a good LCD monitor has 3 yrs.

    What exactly stockbrokers do?

It sounds like you guys are talking about that movie: Boiler Room (2000) A reviewer of this movie writes: As a 26 year veteran Financial Consultant with one of Wall Streets premier firms, I can attest with certitude that the illegal trading practices potrayed in this movie are highly...

    Question on LCD monitors

How much are you saving? If the warranty remains the same (3 yr minimum), then I would go for the lower cost model. For trading, you will not notice the 25 ms response time and the contrast on the 500:1 is already bright enough. DVI is just a tiny tiny bit sharpers, but it is not worth the extra...

    Question about DSL speed options

I think that 1.5M is the most you will ever need. My advice to not surf on the trading machine is based on security risks mainly but is also a processing issue. For example, I use CQG and when I have a lot of charts up with a lot of studies, CQG takes up 80% of the processing power such that my...

    Question about DSL speed options

1.5 Mbps is sufficient. Check the ping speed and the hops to figure out if that particular service is better or the same as cable or something else. Be very careful about running your trading software with charts and using that same machine for email and surfing. This spells more trouble than...

    Question about DSL speed options

It depends on your needs. Answer the following: 1. What do you trade? 2. How much data will you need? How many charts will be open at one time? 3. How many markets do you watch? 4. How important is execution speed to you? 5. Will the connection be used for anything else? If execution...

    To new traders

Well, I will give you another $20 and double your profits this year if you tell me how your approach is different than "If you read 100 books and study every chart ever and make thousands of trades in your first year, you know what that makes you? That's right, a novice." to learn to trade like...
