who knows the star stocks in the great rebound of 1975?

I made my first trade in 1966. Had some time off for Vietnam just after that. By 1974 I entered the brokerage industry....almost exactly at the bottom. OldTrader

who knows the star stocks in the great rebound of 1975?

No one was following the CRB back then. I'm not even sure it existed. There were no crude oil futures. But chances are you can do a google on oil and find the cash prices over the era. People weren't actively following oil prices in those days. That came later. OldTrader

who knows the star stocks in the great rebound of 1975?

Best acting industry? I have no idea...but take a look at my post above. Here's the thing: October thru December of 1974 was one of THE major bottoms of this the 1900's. Stocks were literally thrown away. The Dow was at 550. Seems cheap right? Except that no one knew if they would be in...

who knows the star stocks in the great rebound of 1975?

What I recall is that the "nifty fifty" were leaders in the move into 1976. That was about it though for most of these companies. Stocks I remember from the general period were oil stocks. These were big winners over the next number of years. Houston Oil and Minerals (HOI), Mesa Petroleum...

    Top in Real Estate?

I gather that when you say "top in real estate" what you mean is "top in REITs". Because surely you would understand that what a REIT index does has virtually nothing to do with what a house price does in Peoria. OldTrader

    Real Estate: Fundamentals

I looked through your spread sheet. Just thought I'd mention though that it would be a mistake to categorize me as a "real estate bull". A more accurate description of me would be to say I'm not a "real estate bear". Now my comments. I was unable to get your spreadsheet to work...

    Real Estate: Fundamentals

The income approach applied to a single family home is patently absurb to begin with. The vast majority of homes are not rental houses...they are owner occupied. And therefore, the rental value per se is almost irrelevant. If you believe that people decide to buy based on some type of...

    Real Estate: Fundamentals

I'd say that most of the traders don't understand real estate. Let me give you an example. The basic formula I have used over and over is to buy a property that requires fix-up...sometimes signficant fix-up. Not just paint and carpet. I pay cash for the property. Cash for the fix-up. At...

    Real Estate: Fundamentals

I think you missed my point. I never claimed that some of the more intangible types of factors accounting for the rate of appreciation. The intangibles (if that's what they are) account for the fact that most people want to own. It's their preference due to all of these intangibles. People...

    Real Estate: Fundamentals

I've owned rental real estate for most of my adult life...I'll be 60 in June. I've also traded for most of my adult life, from about 20 on with a few years off for the Army. First let me respond to your comment "I'm earning far more by trading my capital than I could hope to earn by...

    Dell Coupons

I've had Dell's for years and like them. But their service definitely went down hill went they outsourced to India. It was the worst move they could have made. Very hard to understand, and who knows if they know what they are talking about. I now have a local guy I call when I have a...

Let us review a winning strategy!!!

Reminds me of a story I tell once in a while about my friend, a golfer. He would get up on the tee box, line up so that he was aimed way left, toward the trees along the left side of the fairway. The reason was he had a wicked slice. So then we would swing, the ball would head straight for...

    Real Estate: Fundamentals

First, association fees are normal in most parts of the country in condos/townhouses. There may also be some association fees in some single family home areas. But in my area these are small relative to the value of the property, as are insurance (sometimes this is part of the association...

    Real Estate: Fundamentals

Most people don't evaluate houses as an "investment". Instead, they evaluate them as places to live. As a place to live a house has numerous things to offer that a rental does not have. You can decorate as you choose. You can add-on, you can rehab. Etc etc. There is a value to these types...

    CNBC - Cramer's Mad Money

I couldn't believe it when they cancelled the political show, and replaced it with Conan reruns. Sheesh! Maybe they need to replace the programming director. But nothing surprises me out of CNBC. OldTrader

    IB Charting.

As far as the stop goes, when people have expressed this problem in the past it usually has been do to an afterhours type of trade where you have to elect stop orders to trigger outside of regular hours. You might check to see how your stops are configured. I'm not having any of the problems...

Baloney. I had a problem which was reported by others regarding futures prices disappearing. IB said they were addressing it, and it appears they have...I have not had it for a few weeks, and I have not seen anyone else mention it either. If you have a specific problem bring it up. I...
