IB Forcing Upgrade to new TWS 851

Catoosa: There IS such option. Merely select "File", then in the drop down select "Manage Workspaces". A box will open in which you may select one of three choices: select "pre-upgrade.wsp". Always good to be observant. OldTrader

NYT Article: In the Long Run, Sleep at Home and Invest in the Stock Market

Thanks for the defense Michael. But I wouldn't worry about it too much. What kicking thinks is "greedy" is simply a landlord trying to maximize his profit. In a free society this a normal and healthy action. Just as it is normal and healthy for a tenant to try to find the cheapest acceptable...

The Midwest. I'd prefer to keep the specific location confidential, but you can find similar houses all through the Midwest. Remember, market value was $110K, but the house had some problems. OldTrader

NYT Article: In the Long Run, Sleep at Home and Invest in the Stock Market

Kicking: The way capitalism works is that the owner of a property is FREE to raise rent to any level they choose. The tenant is FREE to rent any place he chooses. Typically tenants look around at various possible rentals so that they may find the cheapest possible place to rent that still...

NYT Article: In the Long Run, Sleep at Home and Invest in the Stock Market

Kicking: If you are in favor of rent control you are anything but a "free marketer". Socialist, yes. Communist, yes. Free marketer? Give me a break. I can recall the "People's Republic of Santa Monica, California", where a form of rent control existed at one time. (I don't know if it...

NYT Article: In the Long Run, Sleep at Home and Invest in the Stock Market

Kicking: Sure I am "taking advantage" if you will when real estate appreciates. (By the way, in my area we peaked a 1 1/2-2 years ago.) Nonetheless, I don't buy for appreciation. Remember, make your profit going in. I either make my profit by reselling as in the example I gave, or by...

NYT Article: In the Long Run, Sleep at Home and Invest in the Stock Market

I'm in the midwest. Definitely not a hot market at this time. But it is a competitive market. The point is that in my market there are houses that are in various states of disrepair...such that if someone wants to sell one they have to discount it. In my market rents are decent relative to...

I don't think "just anybody can do what I do" either. First, it takes knowledge. But the good news is that the knowledge is available. It isn't rocket science. And you would probably be surprised at how many people are doing it. OldTrader

NYT Article: In the Long Run, Sleep at Home and Invest in the Stock Market

You don't need a book from me....the book has already been written by William Nickerson, years ago. But yes, real estate is known for large pricing inefficiencies. Typically they exist when there is a problem with the house, or a problem with the owner. Think about it, if a house needs...

    Buffet says Crude has peaked

Uh huh. Let's see now....Buffett let the word out that he may be selling so that everyone could front run him? :D There evidently is no limit to gullibility these days. OldTrader

NYT Article: In the Long Run, Sleep at Home and Invest in the Stock Market

Having done both stock market related investments and investment real estate for years, I think I have a good vantage point to comment on both. First, let me say that usually when these threads start they are started by folks who have little to no knowledge regarding investment real estate...

INTRADAY TRADING: Small stop chop versus big stop drawdowns

I use a wide stop. I call it a "fail-safe" stop. This is the maximum I'm willing to lose on a particular trade. The way this works though is that first I make a trade based on some set of criteria. Once I'm in the trade this "fail-safe" stop serves to give me plenty of room to observe...

    The Market's House Edge! :(

Actually I think you missed his point. He used the "spread" to calculate the house "edge". He didn't factor in commissions. So the bottom line is that had he factored that in there is a bigger edge against the trader. But I do agree....personally I wouldn't be playing a "random" method...

Is IB making our orders & quotes compete with back-fill/charting bandwidth?

Yeah...I read your "reason". Frankly, it almost sounds like a guy with no IB account. Because I gotta tell you, if I had a problem I would bend over backward to provide IB with the means to troubleshoot it. Instead, what you do is provide a constant barrage of bitches about the same...

Is IB making our orders & quotes compete with back-fill/charting bandwidth?

Nononsense: When I find out that you were directly PM'd and asked for information concerning a problem that YOU have repeatedly brought up, and YOU failed to respond, I have to question just how serious YOU are about the problem. I don't find anything "rude" about the responses here by...

Amazing. I signed on this PM and TWS has wiped out my settings, deleted some of my trading permissions. Fortunately one of the restore settings brought my pages back up. Wild. OldTrader
