    About MetaTrader 4 !!!

'Just OTC markets'? MT4 was meant for that.. it wasn't designed to do much else very well. I can't fault it for focusing on one thing and doing that one thing reasonably well. I agree about the lack of custom timeframes as a native out of the box feature though... you can get 2, 3...

Why is bullying and harassment condoned on ET?

To be fair, of all the internet forums about trading that I lurk/post on... this place has the most bullheaded and abrasive atmosphere. It doesn't bother me.. just an observation. I know many former posters who have left this place because of the attitude.

It wouldn't be 10 just because you closed it when the spread was 10, it would be a net aggregate between the two spreads on your open and close orders. When you "pay the spread" in spot or futures, it comes out of your P/L of that trade if you use limits or not. The only exception in futures...

    About MetaTrader 4 !!!

If you wanna use Algo Trader and FIX to a broker, that's an awesome setup. :) But what strategies can't you code with MQL4/MT4? I don't know of many limitations platform wise.. sometimes you'll get a broker with trading conditions that make some strategies not so great, but I've seen some...

    About MetaTrader 4 !!!

Don't usually hear people complain about the charting... it's one of MT4's saving graces. Some brokers have horrible execution speed through it, I've seen up to 5-10 seconds with a few shops.. they give MT4 a bad name in that department.... But, a few good brokers pride themselves on...

    About MetaTrader 4 !!!

Great resources for MT4. No question there. And great advice in general about doing due diligence on brokers. The only thing I'd want to add is not stopping at the location of the broker, as it's not good enough they happen to operate from a developed country, but go further and make sure...

Dukascopy vs. MB Trading vs. Other? Small account

I almost find the no CFD's thing to be a plus... to be honest. I don't want my forex broker to do anything but forex really well as a core business. Plus, CFD's are a made market, and a broker who brands themselves as an ECN style setup doesn't mix well with that. It's like saying a...

The total cost of a trade affects all traders who take a position. The total margin required to hold a position open isn't a direct cost, but instead an indirect one as based off a capital requirement. This only affects traders who wish to use that level of risk as compared to their account...

Hey Wallace, me again to nit pick on futures vs spot :P Firstly, I see you've included a lot more info on spot this time (a few things were some of my talking points from before,) so cool that you've presented a very fair and level assessment of both. I just wanted to point out...

    Liquidity of FX market

I do this. It's really useful.. since there's a lot of players on the futures market that don't touch spot. You only have to keep in mind that the font month contract might not be exactly the spot price, although it will move nearly the same pip wise (depends on when the contract...

ECN broker with many currencies to trade?

Cash exchanges would have a much higher transaction cost in terms of spread. Even if you found a exchange company who will fill your order of the exotic, they have higher overhead since they have to take delivery of notes and pay a clerk and rent to run a storefront. In most cases, the...

ECN broker with many currencies to trade?

What people picked out of your post as a problem (including myself) was the request for an ECN style broker to do this. The point was, even if you get a broker to do this, an ECN model wouldn't be of any benefit, and most likely will just make liquidity a problem since the currency pairs...

ECN broker with many currencies to trade?

You're not going to find an "ECN" that's efficient for the pairs you want... Maybe look to a market maker instead.. since that's going to be your best avenue to get the really exotic stuff... a few good ones: CitiFX has 130+ pairs, many exotics Oanda has many exotics as well, and a...

Canadian friendly Forex broker micro lots

I'm not entirely sure that's the case. Do you have a link to something that verifies that? My understanding was that BC only says you have to be registered and conform to the BC Securities regulator if you want to solicit BC residents (which doesn't bar overseas companies from accepting...

    Account Size- Important for trading

While I agree on the large account size (at least, if you're trying to make a living from it,) I do believe in the following as well: If you don't have the discipline to trade a small account as if it was large (ie, not over-trading, not over-leveraging, not putting on dumb trades just...

Canadian friendly Forex broker micro lots

He asked for non-metatrader based API's... FXOpen doesn't fit. But... funny you should mention that, since FXOpen's ECN account is connected through to SWFX ECN run by Dukascopy. Dukascopy has FIX and JForex (java based) APIs if you go direct with them. Dukas does micro lots as well...

    Which broker?

Cool. Good luck! If you're coming from stocks, don't get caught up in the lower timeframe noise so soon... take it easy, don't over-leverage, and just find out what works best for you. Oh, and be very mindful of news releases scheduled.. that should be factored into every plan you...

    Oanda fees?

There are no requotes on fxTrade; if they post a quote and you execute on it, they will insta-fill you up to 10mil size on a single order. Stay away from their MT4 implementation, or use it but don't expect it to be rock solid, stick with the fxTrade platform.
