Problems trading futures in IRA accounts at IB?

I'd like to see a determination letter or something more concrete with this interpretation. Its non-obvious from the way the law and the code is written. I'd may very well be wrong, but absent something that clearly backs this viewpoint up I wouldn't rely on it as correct.

What happens to option holders in cases of acquisitions?

Maybe not worthless, but worth less than the commission, exchange fees, and $.01/share. I think the MM requirements to post a bid/ask are with stocks, not options. It would be a tall ask to require that for all options in an option chain, and tough to define what didn't require a bid/ask since...

What happens to option holders in cases of acquisitions?

You are thinking about it correctly except you're assuming the corporate action is a done deal. If it's 100% going to happen, then the option would no longer have time value. But if, as is usually the case, there is the potential that the deal falls apart or someone comes in with a higher offer...

    Distressed Debt Investing

You also need to take into account that the many of the buyers of the distressed debt are hedge funds that specialize in taking a very active part in any bankruptcy proceedings that occur which may allow them to get a much greater payoff on their defaulted debt than their tranche would normally...

Why don't I just load everything up SPXL?

Again, a daily rebalancing 3X fund doesn't provide the long-term results you show. At all.

Cheap Dell refurbs (they sell out real fast)

I've purchased 7 Latitude laptops from dfs over the past 3 years for my business. Not a single problem with any of them, and I don't think I ever paid more than $250 for what were basically top line 1 gen behind systems.

The Koch brothers are buying oil for -$0.50 per barrel

I think you're missing my point. If you're paying someone to take your product, there is no cash flow at all, you're paying them! You can't survive longer, you'd be better off stopping production now in all cases if you have to pay someone to take your product off your hands.

What slippage is normal? Stats on my 4621 trades

Thanks for providing quantitative analysis on a statistically significant sample size of something most of us just anecdotally complain about, this is great info! Do you mind telling us the broker, if that is allowed? I don't know that this is good or bad on them, since you're the first person...

Ouch! SEC to put the crimp on leveraged ETFs.

I don't think its a boogeyman at all, but from your original statement and even from this one it appears that you don't really understand how it impacts returns. Its entirely possible that your underlying could double over the course of a year and the 2X or 3X fund tracking that could be lower...

Ouch! SEC to put the crimp on leveraged ETFs.

You need to take into account the daily rebalancing of leveraged funds. These funds do NOT necessarily return 2x or 3x over time, just 2x or 3x the daily move. You need to do the math on the impacts of this in various paths taken to that final price point. You may very well get much less than 2x...

Derivatives are the key to the rabbit hole

I think you have a bit of an issue with definitions. For example, "market efficiency" has a very specific meaning, and it's not the one you attribute to it. Weak form market efficiency would mean that past price movements are not predictive of future price movements. That is all. Strong form...

The Koch brothers are buying oil for -$0.50 per barrel

That doesn't make much sense and probably is a manifestation of the sunk cost fallicy. You don't get any cash flow by paying someone to take your product, first off (I know the price print was an error, but presumably your going off the original idea). Second, if your marginal production cost is...

Saudi Arabia Unleashes Capital Controls: Bans Bets Against Dollar Peg

Oil is denominated in USD. Regardless of the price of oil, it will make up the majority of the Saudi economy for many years to come. Therefore the riyal will remain closely tied to the dollar, peg or no peg.

Saudi Arabia is Buying Up American Farmland to Export Agricultural Products Back Home

You're right, I don't deal in an imaginary world. In the real world, we export apples, grapes, cucumbers... all grown using U.S. land and U.S. water. We export cars to Japan from factories owned by Japanese companies made of steel mined in the U.S. and smelted with U.S. coal, the list goes on...

Saudi Arabia is Buying Up American Farmland to Export Agricultural Products Back Home

By this "logic" anything exported from the U.S. is some kind of loss to M'urica and nefarious gain for the country importing it. Not sure if you're agreeing with this idea or not Banjo, but your screen name is very evocative of the type of people I'd imagine to hold these views!

Single Stock Futures on Inverse Leveraged ETFs

First, almost none of the SSFs have even a bid/ask, especially small caps like 3x etfs. Second, to the OP make sure you understand the daily percentage tracking of 3x and inverse etfs. They aren't guaranteed to go down and in some choppy markets you can really get burned if your etf is...

OTC markets... CME Clearport... how does one begin trading OTC derivatives?

As was posted, the account size requirements make this unrealistic for your retail account less than several $million.

OTC markets... CME Clearport... how does one begin trading OTC derivatives?

This just isn't an option for a retail trader. I work in the electricity industry and understand it better than most but don't trade electricity, imho you're insane to think you can just figure it out on your own. It's incredibly complex, there are few books and even fewer web sites that explain...
